Review of Jack Rabbit @ Kennywood

A classic woody that is still in superb shape and is as out of control as ever. The -Gs on the dubble dip are the best on any coaster that Ive ridden. That is the -Gs at one time. But for a coaster that has -Gs the whole ride that would be Screamin Eagle. This a classic that is in superb shape and still a top ten after 80 years.

Its my number 4. I rode it this summer. Fantastic coaster. This was the last season with hand brakes. They are adding a new modern braking system for next season. Bummer.

Changing to modern brakes isnt all that bad. But if they ever changed the state of the art restraint system, that would really be a bummer!

The double dip is intense.

the double dip is insane! you have a peice of bungi cord keeping you from flyying otu and then you do the first part which is steep, and the second part is as steep but then you just get flung out of the seat!

This is the most deceiving hill Ive ever seen - Even if you walk around to view the entire double dip from the side it looks completely tame, the total drop is around 80 feet, the angle is not steep at all, and the train may hit 45 mph - but John Millers design is fantastic. No matter where you sit you will leave your seat. There is no lap bar and you have this extremely loose, non-adjustable leather belt draped over you and your partners lap. When riders start down this hill, you see them with their arms up, but when you see the train drop on the second dip, theyre all grabbing the hand bar. No matter which seat you are in, the air time is great and the landing is smooth and not a tailbone breaker. Personally, this is the best hill Ive been on - theres more air and fun on this low, slow hill than on the 300 foot 90+ mph Millennium Force.

Videos can be very misleading because they tend to emphasize speed - they cant show G-forces. The Thunderbolt at Kennywood is a prime example of this - if you watch the train go around the first turn after leaving the station and going down the first hill, it appears to be crawling. The same thing if you watch it go through the "bowl" section. But when you are in the train, its a whole different ballgame. I saw the Thunderbolt on TV and it looked like a kiddy ride. But when you are in the train it is one wild ride.
