Review of Tilt-A-Whirl @ Seabreeze Amusement Park

Affectionately called the Tilt-a-Hurl by my father, Seabreeze’s version of the Tilt-a-Whirl definitely could induce some hurls in those with weaker stomachs. Surrounded by several trees and located across from the Jack Rabbit, the Tilt-a-Whirl boasts the typical light red paints scheme that many Tilt-a-Whirls do. Due to the ride’s low capacity, the Tilt-a-Whirl was a one cycle wait, and the dizzying experience that will follow is certainly worth it. Additionally, the operator loaded the ride incredibly fast. I honestly do not think that a minute elapsed in between ride cycles, which is certainly an impressive feat.

With a long cycle, Seabreeze’s Tilt-a-Whirl definitely has plenty of spinning. Not only is the ride cycle long, but the spinning on this version is dizzying as usual. It is evident that the park greases the platform regularly since the spinning was continuous and smooth (plus there was no grinding noise that I have heard a couple of times at local fairs). However, one thing deterred my ride experience- the headrests. While most tilt-a-whirls have a cushioned headrest, this one had a hard, rubbery headrest instead. This certainly is not a major issue, but it was slightly uncomfortable when my head was forced against the headrest during the spinning.

Overall, this is a strong installation of a timeless classic. With a long ride cycle and plenty of spinning, Seabreeze’s Tilt-a-Whirl has two of the most important qualities that I look for in a tilt-a-whirl. However, this version has an Achilles Heel- the headrest. Again while not a major issue, it certainly is enough to knock my rating down a point since there definitely was a little discomfort. Fans of tilt-a-whirls and spinning fans alike should definitely give this a spin (no pun intended) during a visit to Seabreeze.
