Review of Mighty Ducks Pinball Slam @ Disney Quest

The Mighty Ducks probably are the best hockey movies out there and as a kid I found the movies to be quite enjoyable. For years they kind of slipped under the radar in my eyes, but they suddenly reappeared in my life in a gigantic arcade game combining hockey and pinball, with the latter of the two really drawing my attention. The whole concept of the attraction is neat with everyone playing all at once, but the attraction is seriously flawed in my opinion though.

Upon entering DisneyQuest and reaching the third floor, this is the first attraction you come across. One thing I can’t knock it for is that it’s visually appealing and quite intriguing with the massive screen and all of the chaos occurring on it. This attraction was always a walk-on while I was there, and at first I was wondering why since it looked like a good attraction, but boy was I wrong.

The whole goal of the attraction is definitely simple- rack up the most points of everyone to win. However, getting those points is where the real challenge lies since controlling your ball really is difficult to do. Well the ball was supposed to move just as I shifting my weight around, but unless I really leaned to one side, the ball really had a mind of its own in moving. Even after multiple rides (which I now regret), I still couldn’t control the blasted ball all that well. Not only was steering the ball a challenge, but the scoring system on this ride is definitely flawed and poorly thought out in my opinion. On one ride I scored 5 goals, while some little girl kept crashing into the bottom corner and going through a chute again and again and again and won. Wouldn’t you think that the main way to score points is scoring a goal? It should, but apparently that chute is worth way more and I didn’t discover that until after all my rides.

I really wanted to like this attraction, and believe me I really did, but it really was a horrible attraction. The control or lack there of, is non-existent for the most part and controlling the ball is an arduous workout even after multiple rides. Also, the ride is just so chaotic that occasionally it’s difficult to know which ball is yours, but then again that really wouldn’t make a difference on this attraction since I honestly believe I would do just as well as I did with my eyes open as I would with them closed. It’s certainly not worth waiting for, but others may want to give it a shot once to see if they have more success than I did. Interesting concept, but just it was poorly executed.

Maybe if this was themed after "..Slap Shot".. it would have been more interesting. Squaring off against the Hanson Brothers though could be a little rough on the kiddies.

I might actually like Disney more...nah.

^ Yeah that would certainly make the ride humorous, but I can'.t help but agree completely with your statement regarding the kids if it were added. Still, the ride would be really bad.
