Review of Alpengeist @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg

After waiting so long and looking at all the pictures of this ride, I finally was able to ride it. I was looking very forward to riding this ride because it is the tallest inverted coaster there is. When I went, I got to this coaster right when this part of the park opened and walked right on to the back row of the train. This coaster is so awesome to look at. One is able to stand in the middle of the walkway and see basically the whole ride in its beauty. Sadly, it is not as much fun to ride as it looks. The first drop is one of the best. Very powerful and long. After that, it quickly went down from there. The ride was the roughest B&M I have ever been on, even more so then Kumba. The cobra roll was the most intense part of the ride, a little too much, especially from the back of the train. After the mid ride brakes, you go through the inline roll and finish the ride in a very boring way. Basically a few turns in snow theme into the brakes. Very dissapointed with this ride and unfortunately I did not want to ride it again after one go.

I agree that Alpengeist wasnt nearly as forceful as other inverts like Talon or even SLCs. However, I didnt find Alpengeist rough last year, with the exception of the mid-course brake run.

I think the closer to the front you are, the better. I have gotten some good, some bad, and some great rides on Alpengeist.

Yeah, you are probably right about the front. But, I ride almost any coaster I can from the back. This drop was really awesome, but the rest of the ride didnt do anything for me. I really wanted this one to be good, but it just didnt deliver.

I never got to ride in the very front, but I rode in the second row. I also rode in the back row.

Alpie fails at life.

I rode this one time on the front and really liked it. The first drop is the best of any inverted coaster Ive ridden but ALpie just seems too big. The elements are so large that they seem to lack intensity and the entire thing just dies out at the end. Definitely a notch below Raptor and Montu despite its superb theming. Id have to give it around an 8 though based on my single ride.

I agree with shag almost 100%. Very well said. Good drop, elements too large to be intense, and weak ending.
