Review of El Toro @ Six Flags Great Adventure
2 Rating Posted by: shag9004 on 8/7/2007 7:49:00 PM
Date Ridden: June 2007 Times Ridden: 2 (middle of the train and 3rd from the back.)

Im not going to bore everyone with a long drawn out review. Everyone has written virtually everything possible to describe this unbelievable ride. I only got two rides in because we only had 4 hours to spend in the park. As some of you know from my other reviews, my ride partner and I took a trip up the east coast and over to ohio riding the top 10 (actually 9 since GeForce is across the pond) steel coasters in the world according to the 2006 Golden Tickets. We rode Montu in January, got Goliath at SFOG in May and were heading up the coast to ride Nitro and Great Adventure and Superman at New England. We only had 4 hours in the park since we still had a 4 hour drive to get to Superman that day. Plus with rain all morning none of the rides were operating except Batman for the first 90 minutes. However, as the rain stopped and rides begin opening up I kept listening for the air horn which sounds before ET starts operating. We were just getting off Medusa when it went off and we sprinted over to get in line. The line for the front was backed up and we had already decided we were gonna go for the first available seat toward the back and in the middle if we got two rides. We did and everything people have said about this ride is 100 percent correct. One thing that does put me in the minority however is that on both rides, neither of were STAPLED in!! We had plenty of room and the air time was unbelievable. I think the best was the drop into the twister segment. So thats about it. I wont bore you anymore saying the same stuff over and over. El Toro is a 10 if there has ever been a 10. Intamin is king of coaster builders...blah blah...etc....and so on.... Tomorrow Ill try to do a little better in the review department with Thunderhead at Dollywood.

If were thinking of the same drop, that is an ABSURDLY potent drop. Voyage doesnt have anything half that forceful.

Agreed......the drop Im thinking of was the final drop on the run back into the station in which the train then turned to the left and into the twister finale where you are all over the place. That drop was crazy. I do think the triple-down on the Voyage was pretty intense. Ill be going back to Holiday World on the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend so Ill find out for myself the effect the trims have on it.

Gosh, I thought special Swiss sensors in El Toros seats measured leg splay and butt sweat dispersal radius to ensure the proper degree of stapling was achieved before the trains could be dispatched. This whole "plenty of room" business is news indeed.

I didnt have much of an issue with El Toros restraints. At least they dont dig further and further into your intestines like some other ratcheting lapbars do. Though there was one op who was particularly aggressive with his stapling. I tended to sit on the other side, where the op properly checked the bars (just pulled up on them to make sure they were locked).

Most of my rides I didnt get stapled too bad, however with the force of air you get on this thing I dont think they would risk leaving it too loose. At least not like they let me ride Balder anyway.

Even with a decent staple job I felt like I was going to fly out of ET on the first drop in the back seat. Thats such a nutty drop.

^Agreed. 100%

I think Id prefer to be stapled into this ride. The drops are way, way too violent to be trying to get more "air time". Thats just a bad idea on El Toro. I think the potential for this ride to fling someone is high if not properly secured.

Pete: youre probably right, especially considering Intamins less-than-stellar history with chucking riders from trains.

ginzo...exactly! Vying for airtime on an Intamin is like playing Russian Roulette! Still, you have to love the fact that they push the boundaries. Darwin sorts out the rest.
