Review of Mean Streak @ Cedar Point
0 Rating Posted by: detroit_jc on 8/5/2007 11:57:00 PM
I rode the Mean Streak the first year it opened. that is what my rating is based on. no brakes. nice speed, some good airtime, & the nice rough you up sensation that i love in roller coasters.
Maybe they should consider taking a car off the train & having 6 cars to lower stress on the track & this would possibly eliminate the need for the trim brakes?

Although Im not a coaster engineer, I think Mean Streaks problems run far deeper than that which could be fixed by taking one car off the train. Dinn coasters are pretty notorious for having problems. You can blame this puppy for the fact that there wont be another woodie installed at CP as long as Dick Kinzel is around. Though maybe they were just too cheap ass to maintain it properly. Who knows.

yeah i believe your right. no one seems to know what exactly is wrong with this ride now. not sure if they are trying to tame it because of roughness complaints. (which you would never hear from me), or if the train is tearing the track up. but no one seems to know for sure.

There was supposedly talk this year at the ERT event of CP hiring GCI to see if they could do anything with the ride.

When you ride this thing on-line (yes i admit it...i ride coasters online....very often) it looks like a great ride. In going back to CP this year it was one I was looking forward to riding. For some reason, its just not a good coaster anymore. Trims on the freaking 1st drop!! And even that doesnt help.

Still, its a breath of fresh air for me, a guy who grew up around those watered down traditional ones which emphasize working with the terrain over actually making the ride fast, or scary. The roughness added to the experience for me. It gave me something to be afraid of. And the part where you ride through the wooden structure is quite visually stunning. I think that this ones actually quite underrated.

seriously, wouldnt reducing the train to 5 or 6 cars greatly reduce the beating on the track? i think it would be something to look in to. isnt this why they slowed it down to reduce the beating on the track? just because this is a dinn coaster does not mean it has to be a bad coaster, look at the texas giant, rated one of the best. pretty similar layout to the mean streak
