Review of El Toro @ Six Flags Great Adventure
0 Rating Posted by: SLFAKE on 6/29/2007 11:40:00 PM
I was a little put off when the ride op stapled me tightly into the seat. I mean it felt like the lap bar was bruising some ribs and some internal organs. HOWEVER.... Once this beast hit the fan and the train topped the second hill (and every hill after that) and the only thing that was holding me back from that ejector seat air time was the lap bar, I was thankful that it was snug as it was. This ride is FAST... and SMOOTH. While it is intense, it is not brutal... it is very reridable. A conventional wooden coaster of this size and speed (constant speed from the first drop to the station break run) would jolt you around so much that it would be escruciating (i.e. The Voyage)... but this "Plug and Play" design makes the ride wild, intense and extreme... but FUN!!!! First coaster that acutally "frightened" me by catching me off guard in a LONG time.

Hey, in my book 8,9 & 10 are good ratings. Only my absolute favorites get 10s. Considering that at Great Adventure, given the choice, I would ride Nitro over El Toro, Nitro gets the 10.

Thats interesting, most people who have ridden El Toro would much rather ride it over Nitro, but everyone has their own opinions, maybe your just not as much of a wooden coasterfan as others?

No... actually I prefer wooden coasters over steel. I just dont know why some find it so hard to comprehend that there are those who might not prefer the newest or fastest coaster in the park over one that has been there for a few years. I also dont know what the issue is... I gave the thing a 9 out of 10... its not like I gave it a 5 or something. That is the problem with this site and most 1-10 rating systems... 10 is judged as the "Standard" with anything lower (a 9) being judged as inferior.

SLFAKE - dont worry about it. There are people on here that think a ride is nothing unless it is a 10. They think if you say a few goods things about a ride, it should be a 10.

IMO, Nitro is weak/lame/pointless now that El Toro dominates the SFGAdv coaster line-up

Ouch. Harsh words for the coaster that ruled the park just a few years ago

Oh, Im not worried about it. Funny thing is, I think we had this same conversation back in 2005 when I insulted someone by giving their favorite ride, Millenium Force, ONLY a 9.

^^I am sorry, but Nitro is just not a good coaster if you ask me. Its overhyped and just doesnt deliver the airtime that Im looking for.

I couldnt care less if you give El Toro a 9...thats your call. But I also have a right to say Nitro is a pointless ride in comparison to El Toro...especially when the ride ops STAPLE you on it. At least with El Toro you *expect* them to staple you, and when they dont (even if it is rare) you can have an even better ride.

I didnt say it was RIDICULOUS that SFLAKE didnt give it a ten. I just thought it was strange since his review made its sound like a 10. Maybe hes just a hard rater.
