Review of Tower of Terror @ Disney-MGM Studios

The theming on this is outstanding, but the ride wasnt as exciting as I had hoped. The suspense was masterfully built up in true Hitchcockian fashion, but the random ride I received fell short. I swear I didnt drop any more than 3 stories in any given drop. This attraction would be better if it dropped you from the very top after the series of random drops. The drops I got were too short, and lines were too long to reride that day. Ill bump this thing up a point or two if I get a better ride next time.

You are dropped from the top to the bottom at least once on the ride.

It didnt feel like it when I rode it. Is that part of the programming of the ride? Arent these supposed to be random rides?

Ive ridden before and gotten bad programs where you dont seem to drop much. Then Ive had programs where you seemingly drop the entire length of the shaft 2 or 3 times, which is nice since those can be some amazing seconds spent floating out of your seat. Id guess you only rode once or twice, and Im glad you say you are willing to give it another chance

Yeah, I figured it was just a bad ride program. But, I wasnt about to wait another 60 minutes just to ride a drop ride again. They could solve the problem by dropping you down the entire tower after the random program. Of course, that would be less random, but at least youd get something for your long wait. Stunning attraction though. Some of the best theming youll find anywhere.

As a Tower bellhop, I can tell you that each configuration gives you at least 1 full rise and drop. The fact is, it really isnt that tall of a drop (about 130-140 feet), and since it is being forced upwards and down, and has to slow down early to stop in the right spots, it just doesnt feel like youre dropping all the way, even when you are.

There are four different sequences you can get. Each one is made to seem like it is randomly deciding where the elevator will go, but they are programed sequences. The "random" comes from the fact that the sequence is not chosen until the vehicle locks into the drop shaft. So in that sense, the ride you get really is chosen by the Tower itself.

Thats odd. Why is the drop so short for a 199 foot tower? Obviously, the elevator itself eats up some feet, but it still seems like youre being cheated out of a good 30-40 feet.

The motors are actually at the top of the building, and they are 35 feet long and 12 feet high. The room that houses them, plus a lot of equipment for the ride, takes up most of the top of the Tower.

^^I agree. It never dropped you the whole way, which is dissapointing.

Im going to believe Raptor, since he apparently works the ride.
