It is stating the obvious to say that the Comet is the best ride at Great Escape, but it still deserves to be said. This coaster is of similar ilk to the two Giant Dipper coasters that I love so much in California (built around the same time period, though by different designers, and painstakingly maintained). Really everything you could want in a classic wooden coaster is here. There is a very nice first drop that gets the train going good and fast over the small hill that follows it. Plenty of speed is maintained throughout the ride, and there are several quick negative-g airtime moments. Plus there are plenty of lateral gs, especially each time the train tears into the "back" component of this out-and-back coaster. The only part that I felt didnt get executed quite right was the double dip, which didnt deliver so much airtime as a pounding to the back. Still, Im not going to knock this coaster at all. I rode several times during my visit, and each time it delivered a consistently solid classic wooden coaster experience.
