Review of Wonder House @ Dutch Wonderland

The Wonder House is a very compact and old haunted swing ride located towards the back left side of Dutch Wonderland. Surrounded by trees, this tiny ride is housed within an old white building with a sky blue trim. Despite how its a classic, I really didnt enjoy the Wonder House very much. Always a walk-on because of low ridership, the Wonder House has a very low capacity. There are 2 benches in the Wonder House to ride on each seating a few guests. Because the rocking motion is very gentle, there are no restraints. Once the Wonder House begins, your bench rocks very slowly and gently while the building your in spins giving the illusion youre going upside down. However, the effect did nothing for me and I found the ride to be very boring. Inside the Wonder House was almost no theming, just one chair that rotates with the building. You do get a long ride cycle on this boring ride. Making the Wonder House worse is that many children who ride it get frightened by the effect, therefore causing Dutch Wonderland to continually stop the ride to get them off. Overall, a boring haunted swing with almost no theming. I recommend this ride only to those who enjoy haunted swing rides and dont get motion sickness.

Rode this back in the 1970s (and thought it was great to my 8 year old mind) but I didnt review it since it has been so long since that visit. On my most recent visit in 2001 (only my second visit) the weather was so blasted hot that the Wonder House was closed. I supposed it was better to keep it closed than to be carrying out people who passed out from the heat trapped in that little cube with little or no ventilation.

Children definitely are more amazed by these kinds of attractions because they dont understand how it works yet, like I had. Also, when I went on the Wonder House it was stifling in there so I can imagine why it was closed.

Another thing... children today might more amazed by this sort of thing... but when these things were "popular" it seemed to be a much simpler time. It didnt seem to take as much to impress folks decades ago as it does now. Not even sure if kids would be totally amazed by this. Things that amazed and fascinated me when I was 8 years old tend to bore my 8 year old niece today.

Today people are more impressed by high-tech rides than these classical, old-fashioned rides.
