Just a great ride. The best family coaster that I have been on. They theming on this ride and in the line is the best that I have ever seen. You can see the mountain from the parking lot towering over the trees. Just an amazing site. The ride it self is nothing like I have been on. You start of by going forward up the mountain and around it a little until the track is torn up. Then you go backwards though the mountain, which was my fav. Then you stop and go forward again around the mountain until you go back in and see the great yeti. He is just amazing. I rode it twice and wish I could of rode it a couple of more times but the line was 80min. If you go to WDW make sure you ride this coaster.

Good review, but I wouldnt call it a "family coaster".

I would because even childern can enjoy this coaster.

I agree with taylorb this is a coaster that is thrilling but just tame enough for the entire family. The Yeti tends to be a bit scary for the little ones but still a good family coaster. We rode in March and used the single rider line went on 3 xs and the longest wait was 15 min when the stand by line was 60+

But even children can enjoy Top Thrill Dragster too, but it doesnt mean its a "Family Coaster". By definition, "Family Coaster" is more along the lines of Goofys Barnstormer.

So how big are the children who enjoy Top Thrill. I believe Taylor is saying since it does not have extreme speed or a drop it makes it much more suitable for a family.
taylorb251 on 7/20/2006 4:40:33 PM said:
That is exactly right coaster05. I would call goofys barnstormer a kids coaster.
Raptor on 7/21/2006 2:35:46 AM said:
No, Jr. Gemini is a kids coaster... Woodstock Express is a Family Coaster. Any kids that are tall enough to ride Top Thrill Dragster could ride it and love it, but that doesnt make it a "family coaster" by definition.
vbarbieri on 7/21/2006 11:26:20 AM said:
True, but it certainly a coaster that is tame enough for the entire family. That is evidenced by many of the comments on this site.

Raptor you keep on saying by "definition". Why dont you give us the definition of a family coaster? Then I will agree with you or stay with my own thoughts.
Raptor on 7/21/2006 11:37:03 PM said:
I mean as in what RCDB and most enthusiasts consider to be family coasters. Which is more along the lines of Goofys Barnstormer and Flying Unicorn.

Nice review taylorb251. Im glad that you had a great experience, but Ill have to second that agreement with everyone else for the fact that its not a family coaster. Coaster enthusiasts would love the ride too & hows something that stands 112 feet high with an 80 foot drop that has a top speed of 50 m.p.h. be ever considered as a family coaster? Its only behind Rock n Roller Coaster for being the fastest coaster in all of Disney World. The ride experience may be a lil tame, but its still thrilling for everyone to experience. Id consider family coasters something along the line of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Space Mountain.

Thanks for the good comment RCGenius. I wouldnt consider a 80 foot drop to be that high, the drop isnt straight down it twist around the mountain. I said it was a family coaster because it had no big drop and no inversion. So in my opinion it makes a coaster that the whole family can enjoy. If that isnt the def. Im sorry. Also test track is faster than Everst. It goes 65mph.
coasterf42 on 7/22/2006 3:07:04 PM said:
^Test Track isnt a coaster.

Something 50 mph that goes forward and backward is at least a major coaster, but if you want to consider it a family coaster then go ahead. I see plenty of families on any coaster you want anyway.
Scott on 7/22/2006 7:20:36 PM said:
You must understand, Everest may be huge looking, but it twists through the mountain slowly. It looks to be a step above a family coaster, but not by much. And who cares if it goes backwards. It takes the backwards part quite slowly. The backwards section doesnt make it a thrill ride. Please ride it before making such assumptions.
Raptor on 7/23/2006 4:06:11 AM said:
The backwards part is NOT slow, and is rather nausiating. The ride is only slow until you get to the twisted up tracks. Then, aside from the two stops to change direction, it is all pretty fast.
coaster05 on 7/23/2006 9:42:19 AM said:
Coasterf He never said Test Track was a coaster he was just telling the speed.

Raptor, let it go. If he considers it his best family coaster why are your shorts all up in a knot about it. I consider all the coasters in MK to be family.

Raptor I dont know why you are all mad that I said it was a family coaster. It is just my opinion. No matter what it is, its still one of the best rides I have been on and #4 on my top ten list. So lets just drop it and agree thats its a great ride.
tacoking on 7/23/2006 8:57:10 PM said:
Just throwing this out there: I would put it in the family coaster group as well.

Family Coaster.. definately. Sure you are not going to be able to take a 3 year old on it. However, younger children are not going to be scared to death on this at all. Barnstormer, childrens ride. Opinion based on the fact that an adult can barely fit into the car. Plus, the 3 minute wait time compared to the 80 minute ride time says that Everest is drawing all sorts of "kids" from 5-95. The ride isnt intense at all but rather bases its fear on themeing and anticipation. It breaks you in at least two different places to keep the suspense building and for riders to enjoy the scene. I wouldnt say the backwards part or that "spirals" down the mountain is any more "intense" then spiraling down Big Thunder Mountain. May be faster, but not nearly as jerky or as tight. I wouldnt hesitate putting a younger child on this ride.

I use to be hesitate going on coasters that went backwards. I would have to disagree when you say going backwards isnt more intense than riding BTMR. I havent been on Everest, but backwards is backwards and from the on-ride videos I have seen it looks like you do most of it in near-complete darkness. Hard to see how that is at the same intensity level as BTMR.
coaster05 on 10/24/2006 9:39:58 PM said:
Know that I have ridden Everest I would definately consider it a family coaster. There is very little intensity and the drops are pretty gradual. Like a very good mine train ride. If it makes you feel better you could say a coaster for the whole family.
Pete C on 10/25/2006 9:48:01 AM said:
I think it is a family coaster as well, but to the "most thrilling" side of that scale. This ride is more intense than Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain. TM is quite weak by comparison, and SM is all quick turns and drops...neither has any real G-forces. The positive Gs through the helices of EE are enough to bother some people, and make them dizzy or even sick...I know such a person, but they are in the vast minority. Everyone on here are coaster enthusiasts, and we see things differently than the general public. This ride is a notch below Tower of Terror and Rock n Rollercoaster, but not by much.
