Review of Expedition Everest @ Animal Kingdom
-1 Rating Posted by: simla on 6/17/2006 7:41:00 PM
This ride is a let down. I have no idea what people are raving aboout. The queue is really good but the actually ride is nothing special. Its just a bigger version of Big Thunder Mountain plus one second yeti time. The yeti is huge but you can barely see it cause it happened too fast. backward portion of the ride is probably the best part but there is light leaking out which you could see the infarstructure and the track clearly. That ruins the feeling of a mountian. Overall, i am disapointed cause I heard this thing cost 100 millions.

This ride is a lot faster and more intense than Big Thunder Mountain...there is no comparison between these rides. BTMR is MUCH slower. Also, you can easily see the yeti from any seat. I had no problem viewing him, and you are not supposed to be able to watch him for a long time.

Comparing this ride to BTMR isnt fair. This ride is much more faster and intense. I agree that they only show the yeti for a few seconds, but that is kind of the point.

The fact that this review got hit with 3 "bad" marks has dumbfounded me. Though I think the rating is a bit harsh, I think the points are valid. First off, comparisons to Big Thunder are inevitable, and though Everest is much larger, they ARE very similar rides at two sister parks - I wouldnt even waste my time trying to fight it. I dont recall seeing the support structure on Big Thunder, but I DID see it multiple times on Everest. So what if you know that you are only supposed to see the Yeti for a few seconds? I dont falut the reviewer for wanting to see the most amazing animatronic ever created for more than a couple seconds! I think that point is totally valid as well, and that the review isnt bad in any way.

Ok, if you compare the fact that both rides are themed to trains on a mountain, then they are similar. Aside from that the experience is quite different. Bottom line here is that a 5 is a pretty God-awful rating by this websites standards. Only the worst rides out there get 5s or lower. I dont think this ride deserves that rating whatsoever. That said, I really hope they address the issue of being able to see the supports and finish up the back of the mountain. That is inexcusable.

You know what, Pete? I found a ride with a 5.00 rating (Jokers Wildcard at SFNE) and its listed as #1175 out of over 2400 rides listed on TPC. So more than half the rides fall into this "worst" category. Now thats scary! :/

I stand corrected. I didnt realize a high-profile ride the likes of Jokers Revenge also got 5s. Expedition Everest is suddenly in much better company! I have the right to say that I dont agree with this review, just like he can completely disagree with mine.

Well, a five isnt all that "god-awful", if the user thinks its just *average* then so be it. If you are worried about the rides rating getting skewed, then dont worry because this review (along with a 10) are tossed out in the sites olympic scoring system. In all honesty, browing the users reviews, he/she has done a pretty darned good job of spreading out their numerical ratings as their average award is 6.28, compared to 8.56 for you Pete. If anything, you could take a lesson from this user on how to diversify

You have a valid point. I definitely tend to like rides or look for the good in them. I am out there to have fun, rather than looking to nit-pick. I rarely will give a ride below a 6 unless it really sucks, or gave me a good head-bashing.

And I understand that - its a different style of ranking which is where I believe the dispute here come from more than anything. As I read the review, it would flip flop between positive and negative comments equally, so without seeing the number I would have guessed it is somewhere in the middle of the scale. I dont know, its not the best review in my mind, but better than 80% of the reviews out there already...
