Review of Van Helsing: Fortress Dracula @ Universal Studios Hollywood

Van Helsing: Fortress Dracula replaced the Mummy Returns: Chamber of Doom. Located very close to the entrance of the park, this attraction is supposed to show props from the movie and simulate scenes as you walk through the entire story. None of this really matters, though, as what Fortress Dracula really is is an extremely glorified haunted house. And it is a really good one at that. It is very dark, very lengthy, and very elaborate. Its actually quite disorienting in certain places, both due to the darkness, as well as to the corridor of mirrors and the hallway through the revolving tunnel. There are not a lot of live characters throughout (most are mechanical), but this actually works, as just as youve let your guard down, out jumps a live spook from the shadows. This will only take about ten minutes out of your Universal day, and its really more of a diversion than a full-fledged attraction, but it should prove great fun for the haunted house fan.
