Review of Alpengeist @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg
0 Rating Posted by: Fedor on 5/5/2006 8:56:00 PM
Its a very intense inverted rollercoaster ride with lots of spinning and drops. But 67mph? Sorry, but Volcano feels way faster than this. I guess its cuz of the steady gain of speed instead of the sudden launch in Volcano. The inversions are intense and your head gets the feeling like youre flexing your face the entire ride. Nice settings too. Just doesnt give you any stomach churning feel or terrfic sense of speed.

Um, maybe Volcano feels faster than Alpengeist because it actually is faster? Just a thought...

Nice review and welcome to the site.

...I thought Alpengeist seemed extremely fast, especially in the back row. Thats my experience, anyway. But good review all the same, even if I do disagree about that aspect of the coaster.

PKDs website lists Volcanos speed as "over 70", so its faster that Alpengeist, but not by a ton, apparently.

Well, personally, I prefer Alpengeists speed that never lets up to Volcano which fizzles out once it launches out of the mountain. I was just saying that Volcano is *technically* faster, although Alpengeist blows Volcano out of the water IMO

Does it sound like Im trying to get technical? I know the speeds of both. Its just that since Volcano goes 70, if I didnt know how fast Alpengeist really was, I definitely wouldnt have guessed 67. If someone was like "ok, Volcano goes 70 mph, riding this, what do you think the speed of Alpengeist is from what you experienced?". I might have thought it was 60. COMPARED TO VOLCANO. I also like Volcano a little bit more but its pretty close.

Teh real speed dosnt al ways meen mych. you can go really fast hach above the ground or not beign near anything . yet you can go far slower but beign near the ground or along trees and other plants can make then seem faster.

Well, Im not talking about what its being near, Im talking about how fast it makes your body feel like its going.

And how do you think Alpingist makes that Impresion?

What?

If the train runs along near the Ground or any obstacle it gives a sensation of greater speed. Something moving like water or lights in the opposite direction of your movement will give an even greater effect. BGW used the terrain on purpose to help give you a heightened sense of speed.

Um, ok? Well, yeah, its a great ride. Im just saying I like Volcano more?

Volcanos launch and that waisted bit of space out on the back side of the mountain where you do that banked turn feel really, really fast. I prefer Alpie, but speed-wise I havent found anything to match Volcano yet. That launch is just too sick. Welcome to the site.

Ill give Volcano credit for a great set of launches, but after the vertical climb, the ride just loses it for me. Alpengeist might not achieve the same momentary speed as Volcano, but it maintains ridiculous speed right into the brakes and has a much more innovative layout with better elements, IMO

When I rode Alpengeist for the first time, I thought it was better than Volcano. Its certainly a more varied diverse ride. I just remembered Volcano being good but pretty limited and predictable. Then I went to both parks back to back. Damn, I totally forgot that Volcano was awesome even though it doesnt have much variety. Alpengeist was good yet again but wasnt just a BLAST. More stuff happens but the stuff that happens isnt just a BLAST. Recently, I went back to both parks yet again. I love Alpengeist but it doesnt provide the awesome feeling I got the first time. I dont think Ill ever get too used to the intensity of Volcano though.

Understandable, you havnt put down either of the rides. Its nice to live in an area were you have two parsk close enough to do them in one pay. My home park Canobie lake Park is 2.5-3 hours away from SFNE the next closist big park. i have a few small one 2 hours away. The best I coudl do is LAke Compounce and SFNE in one day since LC is only 101.5 hours from SFNE.
