Review of Antique Carousel @ Canobie Lake Park
1 Rating Posted by: ibluv on 12/17/2005 12:09:00 AM
This ride is lacking in atmosphere. While the horses and the band organ are as old as the park itself, the mechanism doent appear to be. Its too utilitarian. The poles are plain, the platforms carpeted, and theres an absence of hand-painted pannels essential to early 20th century machines. Also the horses are painted in colors too bright to be the original scheme. The rides in excellent condition, which is great. However it doesnt have the feel of a classic carousel, but of a gaudy carnival machine. I will end on a good note: the op gave us an extra-long ride cycle (10 minutes) as there was no one waiting in line.

Not a bad review. The Mechanism is the original. Though I know what you’re talking about. The brass was removed about 4 years ago (couldnt keep in clean) and the Floor has been carpeted for years (I heard some one slipped on a wet day). I agree its a shame and might detract some ones opinion of this fibulas Ride.

I moved my rating up to an 8. I appreciate the fact that Canobie has kept their original carousel when many parks are installing fiberglass ones, but a good classic carousel should take you back in time and this one just doesnt. I hope in the future they will fancy it up.

I know what you meen. I too have been very disapointed over the removal of the Brass. I would really like to see the Brass returned. The Hourses need to be repainted anyways and it would make sence to normalize the color scheme. I woudl also like to see them remove the carpeting since its in pore shape now and it detracks from the quality of the atraction.
