Review of Cannon Ball Roller Coaster @ Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park
7 Rating Posted by: BobFunland on 9/6/2005 9:49:00 PM
I live 145 minutes away from Lake Winnepesaukah amusement park. I am 19 years and two months old. I love wooden roller coasters, and have travelled throughout the nation to conquer more than 100 different coasters, and until this past weekend, I had never been to Lake Winnie. Well, I finally made it up there and was able to ride Cannon Ball for the first time.I am a big fan of the Great American Scream Machine at SFOG down in Atlanta (and as some would probably think too big of a fan) and was eager to ride one of its predecessors to the north. Traversing a field in the back of the park, Cannon Ball is hard to see from the main entrance, but its back there. Once I was able to seek out the station, I boarded in the back My first impression was that the ride was cared for very well, judging by the trains that were in top shape and the fresh paint job that was as white as could be. Up we went a mere 70 and down we plunged right to the ground. A tiny bunny hop bounced us out of the seat some and then we hit a good camelback. Again we hit a bunny hop and then up to the eleveated turnaround, only to head back to the station with a series of bunny hops in our way. The ride was good, but certainly not great. There was some nice airtime, but nothing world-class or worth the trip alone. However, the ride was very smooth for a woodie that is approaching 40 years in age, and has aged better than the other two Allens that I have been on (both of which are younger). In such a small park even the busiest of days produces nothing more than a 10 minute wait with 1-train operations. They have a second train but I cant imagine a bona fide need for one. Overall, the ride is in the 7.something range, with the personal elusiveness (the parks 21 rule and limited operating schedule has kept me away for a while, old-fasioned mystique (hand brake, great traditional park, classic out and back design) addding up to a solid 8.In addition, this review brings me to two milestones: first, this is my 6000th post. I am glad to have been around long enough to get that high. Secondly, this is my 300th review. Ive put this one off for a couple of days when I realized that I could get the two on the same post. I hope yall have enjoyed my reviews and I thank you tremendously for giving me feedback with such a high percentage of reviews rated "good". Thanks to everyone, this site can still rock when we do our best and I hope I do my best.

Very nice review. This is an interesting little coaster at a very cool looking park. I think you really described it beautifully and made me interested in the ride and park. Im not going to overlook it anymore. And congratulations on doing such a good job with your posts and reviews. You are one of the few people that I read all of the reviews and actually enjoy them and find them very informative. Thanks.
