Review of Talon @ Dorney Park
1 Rating Posted by: EagleUSA on 8/28/2005 9:15:00 PM
I would have to call this inverted coaster a hidden gem. Its overshadowed by Montu, Top Gun, Raptor, Alpengist, and a few others but in my opinion in can rank up there. Its in a very clean and not crowded park. Everytime that I visit Dorney Park I head straight to this for 4 or 5 rides. I wait no longer then 2 trains on average. The signs on the lift hill were very creative. I feel the drop was great but not all that intense until the loop and G-Roll. The immelman was extremely intense and one of my favorite parts. The ride then had some decent curves and turns which along with nice speed and great intensity makes it top notch. When you dip to the bottom it gets so intense that it feels like your picking up speed. The helix was my favorite part of the ride while my feet dangled close to the ground. Then you coast in with some good speed which finally slows you up to get back in the station. I felt the seating as an average invert. The colors were unique and it was at the beginning of the park so you do not have to take a long walk to get there. It deserves a very high rating. I think I will just knip it from a 10 because it is missing only a little of something. Never miss this ride at Dorney Park. Ride it 4 or 5 times at least.

I wouldnt call it hidden considering it is a at fairly popular and well known park owned by one of the largest entertainment corporations ever, but I get what you are trying to say. My buddy ferg would call it "overlooked", and that is exactly the case. For some reason Talon never gets looked at and gets swallowed up in the world of inverts by the very rides you mentioned, while I and most that have ridden it would consider it to be worthy enough to be mentioned in the same breath as those other rides. Very good review and I hope to see more of them.

Thank you for the compliment. Yes Overlooked is more like it then Hidden Gem. I too agree it deserves to rank up there with those coasters.

Exactly...overlooked...not underrated... Talon is one intense invert, its the first ride I actually noticed my eyes "graying" out...expecially during the decent from the Zero-groll into the Immelman and the overbank following the Immelman. Definitely better than Alpie in my mind, but it doesnt quite match up to Top Gun: The Jet Coaster, which has the better elements on its side, IMO
