Review of Wild Cat @ Hersheypark
0 Rating Posted by: Canobie Coaster on 8/25/2005 2:22:00 PM
This may be a shock for most, but this actually turned out to be my favorite of the Hershey coasters I went on. The first year I rode this, I absolutely hated it because of how rough I found it, but when I returned a year later I absolutely loved it and it became my favorite wooden coaster because I knew how to ride it then. Just heed my advice, keep your head off the headrest!

The coaster is an absolute beauty with its tangled mess of track and no matter how many times I rode it, the ride was still a surprise for me. I know Im in the minority here, but I prefer PTCs over Millennium flyers. I hate the weighted lap bar of the flyers that destroy air time, while the PTCs allowed for incredible ejector air all throughout the Wildcat. I havent ridden it since flyers were added though so I cant comment.

Well, the whole ride is absolute madness to say the least. The entire ride is extremely fast paced and never has a dull moment. I love the agressiveness of the ride and the ride provides absolutely incredible ejector air on many hills such as the first drop, second drop, and the bunny hills. Also, the helixes give great Gs.

This definitely shouldnt be missed at Hershey. Not only is it an incredible coaster, but it also has a much shorter line than a lot of Hersheys other coasters. My waits havent been more than 10-15 minutes at all. No matter where you sit, the Wildcat will give you an incredible ride packed with air and forces that few woodies can match.

Why such a LOW rating? Seems kind of unreasonable...especially since you admitted that the airtime was very good. According to that rating, there was pretty much nothing good about it

Sounds like a difference in how people rate coasters. Perhaps Yoshi here values smoothness a lot. He gave Boulder Dash a 7 and said there was no airtime (as inexplicably hard as that is for me to belive, but whatever) and this a 3. Plus he throws in the "recommend this ride only for rough wooden roller coaster lovers" line which makes it seem like he doesnt like rough rides. I dunno.

I hate rough wooden roller coasters, and the ride is too rough for me. I came off with a head-ache. There was tons of air-time, but you got jostled around a lot on the air-time.

this reinforces a point ive tried to make before, which is that one must take all reviews in terms of their context and not their ratings. ratings coming from subjective experiences are basically meaningless. and to get a context for a review one needs to do little bit of reading and mouse clicking. FIRST - check out a few pages of reviews for a ride. lots of people say wildcat is rough. OK. however, many say it has great airtime (including this review), many say it is exciting and dynamic (my review for instance). just weigh everything that is said in total and compare it with your own tastes. SECOND - check out a reviewers profile. what is he/she into? their other reivews will give you a context for their point of view. maybe their reviews as a whole are preposterous. maybe theyre great. you can decide for yourself how much faith you put in a certain writers opinion.

if i had never rode wildcat but read this review id probably want to give it a shot. a negative review can encourage interest in a ride if its taken in a bigger context.

I just rode the Wildcat this summer and I like the ride much more now as I can tolerate the roughness now. I will have an updated review soon.
