Review of Flying Falcon @ Hersheypark

Minetown is home to some of Hersheypark’s tallest attractions in the Kissing Tower and the Great Bear, but often overshadowed is the area’s best flat ride, the Flying Falcon. One of the four Huss condors currently operating in the United States, the Flying Falcon is a pretty rare type of ride, which is unfortunate since it is a lot of fun. While approaching the ride, it is evident just how well maintained the ride is. Not only does each Falcon car sport a fresh and vibrant paint scheme, but the tower itself looks great. I especially like the neat falcon figure perched at the peak of the tower. Fortunately, the Flying Falcon is always a walk-on thanks to its high capacity and relatively fast loading. The ride begins by rotating very quickly just like a scrambler. Not only is the spinning quite forceful, but the thrill is augmented by the gentle swinging of the cars. Soon enough, the cars rise to the top of the tower while maintaining the spinning. The result is a pretty disorienting ride. Midway through the ride, the spinning stops while the ride is at the top. Personally, I enjoyed this surprise since it gave me a moment to admire the view, especially of Storm Runner. Soon enough, the spinning recommences and seems faster than ever. Increasing the thrill is the fact that the cars seem to be far higher off the ground than they actually are thanks to the aforementioned swinging of the cars. Eventually, the cars slowly lower to the base of the tower though, ending the ride. Not only is the Flying Falcon run considerably faster than the one I rode at the Great Escape, but Hershey also ran a very long program on this on. Overall, the Flying Falcon is an above-average flat and the better of the two Huss condors I’ve been on. Thanks to the combination of fast spinning and vertical action, this quite a disorienting ride. Being one of Hersheypark’s best flat rides, I usually try and ride this once per visit. Therefore, I definitely recommend trying this flat if you are a fan of spinning rides since this one is a pretty unique and thrilling experience.
