Review of Dragons Descent @ Funtown Splashtown U.S.A.
1 Rating Posted by: coaster05 on 8/14/2005 10:14:00 AM
APPEARANCE-9 The dragon and the chinese theme is very good and really adds to the view when you are at the top. CAPACITY-7 They have the line pre numbered which is a great idea, but they did not use it when I was there so it was just a free for all once they let you in the ride. RIDE QUALITY-7 I like the one at Compounce better, but this was still a nice pretty smooth ride. Did make a huge clanking sound when we were at the bottom lowering into the ground. FUN-7 I like getting shot up better and I really like the sound effects on Downtime so it was not as fun as it could have been. RERIDE-7 It is not likely I will be back here anytime soon so that hurts the reride on all their rides. OVERALL-37 AVG-7.4 I will go 7 since it was a good version of this type ride, but I have also rode several better versions.

Im going to Funtown U.S.A. next week, and I have never been on Dragons Descent. I dont like too much of a stomach dropping sensation, but I love Star Blaster a lot. Also, Im not afraid of heights, I did Steel Force(200ft High). Should I do it?

IMO opinion this Excalibur and Astrosphere are the only things really unique. I didnt do much when I was there and I found the parks price to be a little steep. you may even want to do the after 5.

I love Funtown, and I think the price is definitely worth it. I have done almost every ride there, but I want to know should I do Dragons Descent because I like Star Blaster at Canobie.

Funtown and Lake Compounce cost the same. Funtown costs more then Indiana Beach, Adventureland, and Michigans Adventure all of which I really like hence my comment. Your answer then is yes its worth it.

I think that it is worth it, because they have a lot for me to do, and there are short lines.

Id rather spend it at some other parks more than Funtown, but Funtown still is a great park to me.

Star blaster and Dragons Descent are two deforent rides. Dragons is more like Down Time at Lake Compounce. its a turbo drop. its worth a one time ride just for the fantastic view you get from teh ride. i do agree that the price even jsut the park side is a bit high. its $25.00 for rides only and they dont have many rides.

Even though Funtown does cost a lot of money compared to other parks, they have good rides, and everyone enjoys themselves. Whenever people go to Funtown, they always say their two favorite rides usually are Excalibur, and Dragons Descent.

Dont forget Astrosphere. I jsut wish they woudl at least ad a few traditional rides. they dont cost that much. I woudl be happy witha paratrooper and a roundup. at least it would increes there ride count. they havnt added anythign new since 2003 and there prices raised last year. though I was told it was do to the minimum waige in ME going up.

Like I have said, Funtown adds a new major attraction every 4 years. There last one was in 2002, so a new one should come in 2006. The most frequent rumor, is adding a bunch of Zamperla flat rides next year. They maybe would be placed in the Camelot section, or behind Dragons Descent? We will have to wait and see.

before 2003 there was an adition to the park or water park prity much every year.

What new ride to the Funtown section of the park do you think will be added next, and where?

If you two have this much to talk about funtown how bout a thread in coaster critic section. You keep causing my reviews to get locked down.

I didnt lock is and normaly as long as your on topic they dont get locked down. but if you woudl prefer a seporat thred I can start one. oh and there was talk before of replacing the galixy with a wild mouse. but with Old orchard rumered to close I would think they would wait and see whats goign on.

In your review coaster05, you said Dragons Descent had a huge clanking sound, when it lowered. Does anyone know what caused it to do that? Everytime I go to Funtown, I never heard a clanking sound caused by Dragons Descent.

I would prefer a seperate thread. Comments usualy are supposed to be directly related to the review, all other discussion should be in the CC forum. Thanks!

i know this is an old comment but ill fill you in. The "Clanking" you heard while the ride is setting down, is the cart setting into the scales. They are four pneumatic rams that actually weigh the cart prior to ascent, this is why it kinda hangs out for a second after it first starts. It will weigh the cart and determine the proper turbo pressure. This sound is very scary, but 100% normal!
