Review of DiskO @ Mount Olympus Theme Park

Id wager Im in a small minority of people on this site who actually remember the Disco Era, and at its best, it was a lot like this ride: goofy, harmless, lightweight fun. Instead of Donna Summer or Wild Cherry, however, this one treats you to a weird mix of what I assume is Greek pop. My susceptibility to getting momentarily caught up in bad music is by now a matter of record, and Disk-O is exactly the sort of forum where this character flaw tends to assert itself. Instead of being nauseatingly spinny, the ride has a surprisingly graceful, swoopy quality, which lets you feel like an ace surfer grabbing a tasty wave, in this case, I suppose, in the Mediterranean. Despite the rides name, however, the booty-shaking is minimized by an unusual restraint that nails you in the lower back as you sit facing outward on the perimeter of the disk. Its like riding a reverse Round-Up while it shreds a half-pipe. No amount of assurances could get the spin-averse Momma Timbers on this thing, but something about how it moves through multiple planes cancels out, rather than augments, the rides vomit index. True, like any disco experience, its only fun if you can get over yourself and commit to not taking life too seriously for about 2 minutes. Those who do, however, will be rewarded by an enjoyable interlude they wont necessarily feel proud of but just might wish to repeat. Mt. Olympus deserves extra credit for a ride cycle that goes on-nana-non-anon-anon and spinning the break beats in both directions. So when youre ready to let it all hang out, hustle on over to the Disk-O, and catch the fever.
