Review of Spiral Twirl @ Yorks Wild Kingdom

Round-ups are one of the best spin-and-puke flats out there, with their high speeds pinning riders to the wall to experience the powerful Gs. Now typically round-ups are only found at traditional family parks nowadays, but York’s is actually home to one, and it is in fact one of the park’s best attractions. However, that’s more due to the quality of the park rather than the attraction actually being a truly great attraction.

Located near the zoo-side of the park, the Spiral Twirl looks great with its tiger-esque orange and black paint scheme that clashes perfectly to make the attraction stand-out. But what I really love is the neat spiral decoration in the center that really looks cool while the ride is in motion. Oh yeah, and don’t at all worry about lines. I’ve never seen a wait for this ever thanks to its very high capacity and the low crowds that visit York’s. One other note, young kids can ride this unlike with other round-ups thanks to the harness provided at a few, select points on the ride.

Once the ride began, I was treated to a delightful ride. While its run at a noticiably slower speed than all the other round-ups I’ve been on, which leads to weaker Gs, York’s runs it for an incredibly long time with a cycle that lasts some where around 3-4 minutes or so. Sure I prefer an intense ride over a long, duller one, but the extra long cycle definitely compensates for the slow operating speed in my opinion.

The Spiral Twirl is far and away one of the best attraction’s York has to offer. That being said, it is still the poorest round-up of the four I’ve been on due to its slower operating speed, but the long cycle makes it worth experiencing, especially since it is the park’s most intense attraction that they have to offer. Those with a love for spinning rides can’t consider skipping this in a visit to York’s since they really don’t have that much to offer.
