 Review of Cyclone @ Astroland
2 Rating Posted by: PeterD on 7/26/2005 9:57:00 AM
I must start off by saying that the Coney Island Cyclone is a classic for a reason. It holds the best first drop for any wooden coaster Ive ever been on. It is so steep that the laws of physics almost force you to stand as the train barrels down the first drop. Then the train tosses you into the heavily padded seats as you turn around and plummet to the ground again. After this, one of the best airtime hills ever created reaches its apex under the lift and really tosses you. Without a seatbelt stapling you to the bench, there is a major gap between you and the train. Thats a rare find these days. The cycle continues to throw you into and out of your seat. What makes the Cyclone so amazing to me is that every drop is so intense and the turns are so out-of-control, yet the ride still operates after so many years of high-quality service. On hot days, youll fly along its track. The Coney Island Cyclone is a “can’t miss” for anyone who considers themselves a coaster enthusiast.

Funny. Barrels down the first drop. I didnt know wood coasters could do barrel rolls down a first drop. LOL

Having ridden the Cyclone again this past year after a long absence reminded me how truly great this coaster is; however I really dont recall airtime on the hill by the lift. It seems more like your being bucked out of your seat rather than experiencing negative gs (I distinguish the two as separate, but equal experiences), but I think this is one of the only coasters I have never ridden hands up the full circuit in the last seat. You did say "airtime" though, not "negative gs", so I think I am only debating this with myself. Anyhow, it really is an intense, life-affirming experience. Nice review, keep em coming. larrygator - I too felt compelled to comment on jdales "barrel" reference, but didnt want to dignify it with a response.

Its Egectore air As aposed to Floater air. there is a deforence but its still caused by negitave Gs

I dont want to get into a long discussion about this, but negative gs are not a cause, but an effect. When a plane is diving faster then you would freefall, the experience is that of weightlessness, i.e. negative gs. Being catapulted up into the air IMO is not quite the same, although your ass still leaves the seat. By the way mrc, it took me a while to figure out what your were saying; you would really benefit from spellcheck ................................ (in case you edit your post; I think its pretty funny!)............ "Posted by mrceagle on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 11:42:42 AM

I Not going to contest this. I know its an effect I sust stated ut wrong. What I was getting at is that both are do to that change you mentioned. The Floating air if froma gradual change int car as abosded to the suden change. I injoy both and as for a would they wouldnt be good without them.
