Review of Wild Cat @ Hersheypark

this ride, to me, is more appropriately felt as "the wild pig", because its personality is more one of snorts, snot, spit, awkward sprints and abrasive squeals, and less one of a graceful, furtive and agile predator. however the "wild pig" doesnt lack its own brand of agility, and for the style of the coaster it represents, a twisting woody, i would say it had a lightness and spring that i found lacking in the (also good)twister up the hill in knoebels. i loved the coarse shake up one gets on this coaster. it got my attention on the first ride and transmitted some of its life energy to me. i was smiling non stop in spite of the fresh thrashing. my girlfriend was totally beaten down by the pig, and upon leaving the train, she could only say "that was f****d up" several times. she refused to ride it again for the rest of the day. myself, on the other hand, i found this ride to have a spirit not found in the other hershey coasters. for instance, i do not the like the millenium flyer trains on the lightning racer, unlike many people. i prefer the PTC trains on the wild "pig" because they are very open feeling, and frankly the seats themselves are slightly UNcomfortable, which i think tenses the rider some and gets one in an nice upright position and pumped to scramble about some with the ride. "comfort" is not needed on this roller coaster. some have attributed the rough ride of the "pig" to the PTC trains and the fact that GCI were just getting their licks together with this one. but i think GCI should do more with this style. they could concoct the modern day crystal beach cyclone (perhaps a little friendlier) if they kept working in the direction of the wild "pig". the design and layout here is very disorienting and convoluted, and there was something strange at the ending, like it just suddenly knocks you through something pretty jarring - actually it feels kind of like the train jumps a curb - and starts going faster right though to the brakes. who doesnt love when a roller coaster appears to pick up intensity at the end when you think it should be puttering down? nobody. everybody wants their coaster to go nuts at the end. please check out the wild "pig" and dont take your girlfriend in the back seat on the first ride. oh, bring some aspirin, i did get a little throb in my head after a couple rides in the back.

Your review is right on the money. This ride definitely isnt going to please everyone, but it almost seems like a Valentine to the wood coaster purists. Glad to have a recent addition to the site who isnt afraid to get tuned up a bit in the name of fun. Youll find you have some comrades here.

After reading some of Mt. Travers reviews, I couldnt help but think that you two would get along. I concur that your review is excellent, and also extend a welcome.

Third to offer my handshake - if I havent said earlier, welcome, Traver. I noticed this coaster back in 2001, when my husband and I visited HP for their Christmas festival. We had just gotten engaged, and at the time, my husband didnt know what a coaster fiend I am - I just kept looking at the Wildcat, practically drooling, saying over and over again, "Jesus, look at those laterals on the hills..." - he had no idea what I was talking about, and was looking at me like I was nuts...

yes, coastermania does appear zealous and a tad nerdy to outsiders...

Nerddom and thrills all in one interest - doesnt get much better than that.
