Review of Thunderbolt @ Six Flags New England
1 Rating Posted by: Mt. Flyer on 3/22/2005 2:15:00 PM
Thunderbolt is a wonderful wood twister from 1941. Its 75 first drop is taken at a rather shallow 45 degrees. This keep Thunderbolts top speed to a fairly tame 45 miles per hour. However, what TBolt lacks in speed she makes up for with a very "zippy" layout. There is also a surprising amount of air time on this coaster, especially towards the end. If you have a child in your family who is ready to graduate from kiddie coasters, then Thunderbolt is the perfect choice for a kids first adult coaster. But dont let that description fool you, this ride can be surprisingly exciting, and like all good woodies, every ride is different.

Good review. i liek the thunderbolt and its layout. I have always liked Whalomes Flyer con=met a bit more but they both have their charms. one thing though, this isnt a twister, however Cyclone is.

Thanks, never had the chance to try the Flyer Comet, though Ive heard it was a wonderful ride. And yes, Thunderbolt is a twister. A twister is simply a coaster than twists around itself, as opposed to an "out and back". Thunderbolt can also be described as a "figure eight". Matter of fact, if one looks at the definition of "twister" at the RCDB youll also see the directive: see also "figure eight".

Again Im abit of a purist. I have always called it a figure eight. I only aply a twister as a coaster with a highly veryed layout that twists around itself. normaly the layout isnt traditional. for example Excalibur woudl be considered a twister.

Semantics - its like the fact that a ship is a boat, but a boat isnt a ship. A figure eight is a twister, but a twister may not be a figure eight.

I guess that works. anyways I like the coaster which is in far beter condition then Cyclone. This is hard to beleave some times given that the Thunderbolt is nearly twice as old.

Thunderbolt is alot smaller than Cyclone so its easier to take care of.

Yes it is a much smaller coaster than Cyclone, but I think the issue is the forces and stresses that the Cyclone structure has to endure.

I couldnt begin to understand it. The area is a maintanice and Emergancey entrance. i think they thought that they were getign in the way of a potention rescue.
