Review of Looping Coaster @ Funtown Pier

Ive never seen another one of these, which leads me to believe it was really a metal shop project built by a couple of Toms River East High School students. All things considered, I think they did a pretty good job, good enough, in fact, that Son of Beast (one of my personal favorites) copied the basic elements of the ride: a drop, two helices, and a loop. The cars arent that comfortable, and the OTSRs are overkill since you hit the loop at maximum speed, but compared to the rest of the ride, the two-car trains look pretty high-tech; shopping carts would probably blend in better. That said, I have to give it its due. Seaside Heights has been cleaned up quite a bit since back in the day, but the atmosphere on a warm Friday night in July still rivals Coney Island for good-time seediness. Ludicrously cobbled-together rides are all part of the fun, and LC delivers a serviceable roller coaster experience between rounds at the Sawmill. The location at the edge of the pier is also a plus and adds even greater poignancy to the death grip of the OTSRs, as those trains surely wont float when the salt air finally eats away that flimsy trackage. When the Eastern European ride ops tell you to keep your hands in the car, they aint whistling Dixie. You could lose a few fingers on the tight confines of this thing. Overall, a fun little oddity that along with Seaside Heights itself is not to be missed.
