Review of Bizarro @ Six Flags Great Adventure

Good B&M... has some intense spots. Ill give this a nine... too bad this is a case of a good coaster in a crappy park. UPDATE: 5/26/2005: Ill take back my "Crappy Park" comment. While Great Adventue is NOT one of my favorites, I will admit that this year their operations and upkeep seem vastly improved over last.
UPDATE: 6/29/2007 Okay, I will really take back my crappy park comment! What a difference two years can make! The park look great and was clean. All rides were runnig at very good efficiency with pleasant ops... and a security force in full display! As far as I am concerned, Shapiros changes are working for the better.

Im not sold that this is a crappy park. It isnt a great park. All the Six Flags parks seem to be only interested in rides, which is either a good or bad thing depending on your view. I personally like parks to have some personality, to be kept clean, and have a good atmosphere. Most Six Flags fail at those pretty bad. MM is the worst, KK or Georgia maybe the best(that Ive seen). Great Adventure is probably somewhere in the middle.

I agree with War, this isnt a terable park. This year looks to have allot of promis for the park. Medusa is great at the park look how it turned ot at MM it was built over the parking lot.

Well, this wasnt one of the greatest parks when this review was written. I hated the park. It all has to do with when the review was written, and back then the paths were dirty, rides were down, there were no flowers or nice landscaping and the staff was horrible. There wasnt even security there. Now it is seeing some promise, but back then it wasnt that great at all.

The 2004 season was that bad?
Hercules on 4/23/2005 12:58:15 AM said:
Well, the last few seasons had been that bad. Just think of brawls, overflowing trash cans, broken down rides, ignorant and unwelcoming staff, walkways that looked like a herd of cattle decided to stop for a bathroom break, no atmosphere or environment or landscaping, and just countless other things that just made the experience so unlikeable. I personally thought it was horrible. Now, people see pictures of the way it is, and they ask me why I would talk so badly about the place so much. If only they knew.

Sad to hear they droped the ball that badly for that many years. I went to the park a couple of times last time was about 7 years ago. and then 4 years before that. I injoyed the park merry much. Its good to hear they are making an effert to clean up their act and get things back to were tey should be.

I go to SFGA regularly as well as to many other parks. I agree with war2174 that the park is about average for atmosphere and looks, BUT (1) there is lots to do (more than at basically anywhere else) (2) the Safari is a great free attraction that other parks do not have and (3) the park is undergoing a long term fix-up and looks much better than it did even two years ago.

Im not arguing with that at all papa. I have gone to the park the past three weekends. There are a lot of things to do, even without everything open as far as shows go, just yet. I dont go into the safari, I have explained my reasons for that before, but Im sure that a lot of people enjoy it. And yes, they have done a good job over this past year to try to make things great for the future. However, it was pretty bad over the last few years causing my hatred for Six Flags to grow. Now that they have started to care, I like the place a little bit.

As stated above, my review was written back in August of last year (2004). The day that I was there, things were just as I said... pretty crappy. If that has changed in the off season, so much the better. Considering that I only got to ride 4 of their coasters (the others being either broken down or having horribly long lines) I plan on returning this year. IF things are better, that "crappy" comment will be removed. As for my comment on long lines. I do understand that Great Adventure is a very busy park and is known for lines, but the annoying thing is this... I waited 5 to 10 minutes for my ride on Medusa. That doesnt seem too bad, except that it was a litteral walk on... I walked up to the loading platform and sat imediately down into an empty seat. The wait was because the ops were moving very slow (did the 3 toed sloths escape from the Safari?) Same with Rolling Thunder... a short line but a very long wait (20 minutes or so).

Rolling Thunder is never going to change. However, the ops on Medusa are very good this year. The same thing happened with me too, as far as coasters went. The times that I had been to the park, I hadnt gotten on more than 4 coasters until this year. In the past, Scream Machine was always a walk-on, Skull Mountain was one of the shorter lines and then I waited about an hour for Viper (why, I dont know) and Batman. I got the season pass this year because I heard of all of the great things that they were supposed to do, and so far it has been pretty good. The rides have been up and going, most of the time, and they are really working on getting things straight. I have finally been on all of the coasters there. The lines on Medusa and Nitro were just so bad those times that I just didnt bother, but this year since I have been there a few times already, the lines are short.

The ops can make or brack a coaster. I totaly agree. I have in many parks had to wait longer do to the fact the ops wernt effeciant at what they were doing.

Ive updated the review. After visiting yesterday (5/26/2005) I will admit that the operations at Great Adventure seem much better this year than last. The park looks clearner and things look to be in better shape than last year. Granted, this is the beginning of the season, and last year I visited near the end. It will be interesting to see if these imporvements are still evident later this summer as the season draws to a close. Are the improvements long term? Or will they disappear as employee enthusiasm drops and boredom sets in?

Its good to hear that SFGA is improving. Now if they improve MM they might just regain some momentum. I understand it is hard to make a determination on one visit, if you had a bad day then the park sucked, a good day and the park is great. MM might be better than I saw that day I went. I guess Ill have to convince my wife that I need to go back to find out!
