Review of Revenge of the Mummy @ Universal Studios Florida

Alright, I have to set this whole review straight. I enjoyed the mummy, but I have some big problems with it. First of all, the hype to this ride had a lot of claims that just were bogus. There is no mummy actually jumping on the car. I rode this ride twice over two days the middle of june and there was no mummy jumping. I didnt even see a point where there could have been a mummy leaping on the car. A couple reviews rave about the animatronics at the beginning...again, Im not seeing it. The mummy squirts out like he has a rod in his back, because he does, and then jerks and shudders as you go by screaming at an ear-hurting volume. The Brendan Frasier joke ending was pretty damn dumb...kinda blows the whole theme considering the "making of" part of the line was probably over a half an hour ago by that point. The ride was very jerky for a new coaster, I was really suprised by that, and sore afterwards. My last complaint is that it ate 2 pairs of sunglasses I had...USE THE LOCKERS, I say this from experience.

ok, the good stuff. The backwards part was cool...the line theme was cool, with nifty stuff to keep you interested. I liked the talking mummy face in the treasure room, it did what it was supposed to do...the mummies in there were kinda lame though...the fire effects were kick ass. When the cieling catches on fire I was spooked. Overall though, its got a very wierd pace and at the end I felt more duped by the hype (which was WAY less than what my gf had worked herself into, she was almost pissed at this ride) and my neck was more abused than Id have liked.

I would have given it a 5, but a 4 is needed to balance out the 9.8 this thing currently has, it is NOT that good...a 30 minute wait is all its worth...or fast pass it. ;-)

The Mummy jumping on the car was a rumor, buddy. Also, you may have gone on it when a scene was not working properly, which has been happening from time to time. And, it;s your own fault for not following to the signs that read, "Please hold on to all loose articles."

The joke at the end is supposed to be one of the only flaws on the ride. (I agree, it is stupid)

Of course its not the best ending, but at least its unique.

I bet without the themeing the ride would be as well regarded as the Trailblazer at Hershey. Ah well, being only 2,200 ft. long you cant expect the $40 million to go just into that.

It may only be 2200, but its a long ride. And, they wouldnt build it without the themeing.

Duh, without the themeing the ride sounds like its nothing.

The themeing is what makes the ride, and youd be surprised, the coaster portion is pretty darn good. Better than Space Moutain at MK.

Thats not really saying much.

Um, yeah it is. Its pretty good for its age.

But its far, very very far from the best in the world.

Well.....duh.....

But you seem to think it is, even better than Millenium Force and (gasp) the Hulk!

I was talking about Space Mountain.

Space Mountain rocks guys...and I saw an on-ride video of the Mummy and it looks amazing. (The video didnt show much scenery since everything was dark and the picture was horrible, but I could still hear and tell what was going on) I cant wait to ride it.

this is to the very first guy on here, "tacoking", it says on the damn website that a mummy jumps on the car. thats why my gf and her whole family were excited about this ride. it still says it somewhere in one of the brocures they picked up INSIDE the park...theres some bogus advertising going on.
mobdick on 7/5/2004 11:43:15 PM said:
as for the ending...a floating toaster would have been unique too, and just as retarded and out of place as the brendan frasier thing.
tacoking on 7/6/2004 1:07:04 AM said:
No brocures of mine say a Mummy jumping on the car. How was the Brebdan Fraiser thing out of place?

All that imhotep comedy stuff was close a half hour previous in line...theyd segued out of the silly movie related stuff and into the "reality" of a mummy tomb. Having him at the end after supposedly suffering through the wrath of a real mummy was rediculous, not to mention the lame joke.

I, personally, like it.

Yo Mobdick, The mummy jumping on the car is for the one in Cali. You gotta learn to read the small print and you also know how all the parks hype up there rides. Like when RnR first opened I was expecting something awesome and out of the ordinary then I rode it and was just as dissapointed as you are with this ride. Ive learned to ignore all the hype and rumors and to go on the ride without any expectations, I advise you to do the same.
