Review of Alpengeist @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg

A spectacular Invert, not to mention the great theming, it is incredibly intense, fast and usually runs very smooth. It easily makes my top 10 rides, although it doesnt have the overall fear factor. A must ride for any coaster fan,

Hey ETSURF51, if you want it to have more fear factor, try riding it in a pouring rainstorm while sitting in the front row like I did. I have only ridden it once, and it was under those conditions. It had plenty of fear factor for me, but I totally understand your point anyway because I am talking about extreme conditions.

Hey rock, welcome to the site. Nice to see you around and contributing. I see from your profile that you are new to all the crazy stuff. Nice to see that. If you have any questions I, and a lot of other great members, will be ready and willing to answer them for you. You can always ask me about anything. My AOL screenname is in my profile along with my email and all of that good stuff. Geeze, pooring rain on Alpengeist. Reminds me of the pouring rain ride on Steel Force that I had and what I saw some people having earlier in the day. Once again, welcome to the site. It is a good site and very fun and has a lot of good and people with a lot of knowledge. I hope you stick around.

Yeah, roller coasters are a really good hobby to get into...I personally joined the ranks of coaster enthusiasts only last summer Good review for Alpie, man....although if youve never ridden it before I would think it looks pretty scary

Hey Hercules, thanks for the kind welcome and the offer of your knowledge. Its great to hear! I intend on sticking around. This site has been very fun and informative thus far. I would agree that Im relatively new to the crazy stuff. I rode Batman, Scream Machine, Rolling Thunder, and a few other things at Six Flags Great Adventure some years ago, but never any hypercoasters to my knowledge. Then I went to BGW with my wife for our 1 yr wedding anniversary trip, as per her suggestion, and the park was even more beautifully laid out than she said. I didnt do any research on the coasters before going there so I didnt know to expect such intense rides from Apollo and Alpengeist (Although Apollo looks intimidating, even from a distance). I was pleasantly surprised with all of them, even Nessie, which is still good after all the years it has been around. I missed The Big Bad Wolf because it was down when I was there, but Ill get to it next time. Thanks again for the welcome.

Hey fergusonat. Alpengeist looked pretty scary because it is built on quite a large scale for an invert, but to tell you the truth the great theming distracted me quite a bit from looking at the actual structure while I was in the queue. I need to ride it again in better weather so that I can actually see the view. I must admit that although Ive been on other coasters and in other parks before, BGWs total package really made me finally become a coaster enthusiast. I just told a good friend about my experiences today, and it turns out that he is a "closet coaster enthusiast" as well. Im trying to convince him to join this site. As I learn the inversions better and am actually able to keep track of them while I ride, Ill try to give more detailed reviews.

Alpen really does pack a punch especially on that first drop.

I think the real punch is the cobra roll. It is an aquired enjoyment, IMO....when I first rode it, I thought the cobra roll was way too intense, but each time I ride it, I enjoy it more and more

I just didnt notice this intensity that everyone talks about. The ride seemed very smooth and enjoyable to me.

coaster05, I need to really ride it again in good weather so that I can make a fairer assessment of the intensity. In a pouring rainstorm, it was the most intense coaster that I have ever ridden, iverted or not.
fergusonat on 6/17/2005 11:14:30 AM said:
Oh the cobra roll is intense...thats for sure. There is no doubt in my mind that the cobra roll on Alpengeist is by far the single most intense element on any coaster Ive been on so far, rivaled only by Top Guns wingover. But then again, thats just my opinion
