Review of Big Thunder Mountain @ Magic Kingdom
-1 Rating Posted by: Chet on 8/16/2003 3:24:00 PM
This ride was slow and boring. If it wasnt for the scenery i wouldve given it a 1. I mean, come on disney! At least put ONE thrilling roller coaster. I thought this ride was a complete waste of time. Im not sure about MK being the "Best Park".

Oh come on, its better than a three!
tacoking on 8/21/2003 4:57:31 PM said:
OMFG! The scenery alone gives it a 5. The other 5 comes from an enjoyable ride. Now lets see, 5 and 5 = 10, not 3.
rednk on 8/28/2003 11:07:10 PM said:
Doesnt this ride have three lifts? If so, I dont see how you could say it is short.
tacoking on 8/29/2003 7:25:35 PM said:
Thats because its not.
Swimace on 8/29/2003 10:30:43 PM said:
The ride isnt short but it is boring and doesnt deserve the 10 tacoking says it does, I would give it a five for the overall ride.
Chet on 8/29/2003 10:54:11 PM said:
ok, it is slow, and it is boring. it isnt short if you count the lifts, but i dont... only the first one. IMO, scenery isnt everything. Ok... you convinced me... ill raise it to 4, the overall of our opinions.
tacoking on 8/30/2003 3:18:40 PM said:
Dang we got some stupid people here.
MovieCoast on 8/30/2003 4:41:20 PM said:
The ride is the fastest, biggest, longest, most exciting, and best mine train EVER!!! It deserves much more than a 3.
tacoking on 8/30/2003 4:56:18 PM said:
Like a 10. I dont see how it is boring.
Swimace on 8/30/2003 9:37:29 PM said:
Actually MovieCoast TM is the 7th fastest, 5th longest mine train. TM was the most thrilling coaster ever..... When I was in Kindergarden! I cant see how anybody can honestly give this ride a 10! This ride has two things to offer: scenery and ride time.
tacoking on 8/31/2003 6:57:38 PM said:
Theres 3 things: GREAT scenery, a pretty fun ride, and then ride time. all that equals a 10.
Swimace on 8/31/2003 7:07:17 PM said:
Ten isnt divisible by three. The only semi-exciting part is the helix coming off of the second lift.
MagnumMan on 8/31/2003 9:00:00 PM said:
Umm...ok. Arent we are the hotheaded one? You dont have to be so uptight, you know. It wasnt built for thrillseekers and if you cant see that, then theres no point of you going to DisneyWorld, or especially not DisneyLand.
tacoking on 8/31/2003 9:56:49 PM said:
Dude, I know its not built for thrill seekers. If it was it wouldnt be a disney. Its a family ride. I still find it exciting. You cant get a ride like that on any other coaster.
MovieCoast on 8/31/2003 10:31:12 PM said:
No you cant. Its the wildest family coaster Ive been on. Disney does build intense coasters though (i.e Space Mountain @ DL Paris and California Screamin), they just arent in Florida.
Swimace on 9/1/2003 12:12:32 AM said:
Thats not entirely true, they have rrc @ mgm. other than that theres not any exiting disney coasters in Florida. Hopefully Expedition Everest @ Animal Kingdom will be a good ride.
MovieCoast on 9/1/2003 8:23:14 AM said:
Rockin Roller Coaster isnt intense though. The launch is intense, but not anything else cuz of evil trim brakes.
Swimace on 9/1/2003 10:06:33 AM said:
Ya, your right. But thats as intense as they get at Disneyworld
tacoking on 9/1/2003 12:43:28 PM said:
Ok, let me rephrase. If you want an intense coaster DONT go to MK.
Swimace on 9/1/2003 1:20:17 PM said:
Thats a given
MovieCoast on 9/1/2003 3:43:40 PM said:
Well, the coasters there may not be intense, but theyre great. Space Mountain is very thrilling, but not very intense as is Big Thunder Mountain, and I think theyre both better than Rock N Roller Coaster.
Swimace on 9/1/2003 4:09:24 PM said:
The theming of Thunder/space mountain builds alot of the excitment of the ride. Both have great theming to them, even though space mountain may be do for a renovation on some its theming. If you took the theming out youd have two bad coasters. But thats what Disney does best, good theming. I also agree on the Rock N Roller Coaster comment.

ok, just stop there.
MagnumMan on 9/2/2003 2:46:51 PM said:
I wasnt talking to you, tacoking. I was saying that to swimace.
MagnumMan on 9/2/2003 2:58:28 PM said:
I never judged Disney on the intensity of their rides because, first of all, they JUST pulled into that business. The quality was what got me. Some rides have are absolutely devoid of any theming or atmosphere at all and just go straight for the thrills (Titan-SFOT and most of the Cedar Point coasters are my examples of this). There is definitly nothing wrong with that but, like Ive said before, it would be better if the whole package was there. Disney goes a step above and everyone knows it. Thats probably why a lot of their coasters (old and new) are so re-rideable, even though most hardened coaster fans could fall asleep on them if they wanted to (Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower Of Terror are exceptions to this. Especially ToT. I think that ride totally brings you into the experience, creating , arguably, the most enjoyable ride ever built. I havent heard of one person has come off dissapointed completely)

What were you saying to swimace Magnum?

Thats exactly what I want to know lol.

[As stated in message #12] Umm...ok. Arent we are the hotheaded one? You dont have to be so uptight, you know. It wasnt built for thrillseekers and if you cant see that, then theres no point of you going to DisneyWorld, or especially not DisneyLand. (Now I feel bad. Swimace is probably going to ask me why I said that next...)
tacoking on 9/3/2003 4:57:32 PM said:
That was confusing since you said that 16 messages later.
Swimace on 9/3/2003 8:43:16 PM said:
You already said that in message # 13, do you have a point or did you just feel like saying it again 16 messages later.
tacoking on 9/3/2003 9:38:10 PM said:
Oh well no big deal. I found Space Mountain better.
Swimace on 9/4/2003 3:07:26 PM said:
Ya, I agree
MagnumMan on 9/4/2003 4:45:13 PM said:
I was repeating what I said because in message #32 you said what was I saying to you. Anyway...
tacoking on 9/4/2003 5:19:57 PM said:
Ok that didnt help, but anyways, those dark coasters are fun.
Horizons12 on 9/5/2003 1:49:00 PM said:
actually I agree that this ride doesnt deserve a 10 but not a 4 either.
Chet on 10/8/2003 8:38:02 PM said:
that isnt the way i rate the rides. IMO, a roller coaster is supposed to be thrilling. if its not, it gets a low rating. i dont like unthrilling roller coasters, because theyre not roller coasters; theyre kiddie rides. WHEEE! im go up and down. not tooo thrilling. i obviously donot like kiddie coasters, or kiddie rides.... which is why i dont go on them. the only one i like the carousels and some other stuff. so go ahead, yell until my face gets ripped off. im still not changing the rating. i donot mean to get all hostile, but you guys just really get me mad when you crash on someones opinion. im aiming mainly on tacoking, just so you know.
vbarbieri on 10/9/2003 3:05:34 PM said:
Where I think you miss the point is a ride should be rated in the category it is trying to fit into. BTM is not competing with Apollos Chariot or Alpengeist it is a 30+ year old coaster and that is how it should be rated. Is it a 10 no way, is it a 4 no way but the beauty of the site is we are all entitled to our opinion. And on a typical day the 45 minute wait for this ride tells me there are more people who rate it a 10 then a 4.
vbarbieri on 11/4/2003 11:01:52 PM said:
Come on Chet this ride atleast should get a 6, take care.
disneyman on 11/13/2003 10:24:53 PM said:
Ok, this ride is pretty boring and comparatively slow, but it is definitely not short! How can a ride be short and have two or three lift hills?
Danny on 11/14/2003 3:16:10 PM said:
I gotta go with sfgfan on this one
Chet on 11/14/2003 5:08:11 PM said:
its my opinion, and youre not going ot change that
disneyman on 11/14/2003 8:51:15 PM said:
I know that. Im just arguing my point.
