Review of Rockn Roller Coaster @ Disney-MGM Studios

I cannot believe anyone likes this ride! UGH! The only fun portion is the launch and first two loops. After that it slower than molasses! And it is also cheap. AND it is way too short. AND the building is extremely ugly, especially considering it is in the shadow of the gorgeous Tower of Terror. These two rides are perfect examples of how cheap and lame Disney has gone in the past few years.

I said that those were examples of how cheap Disney has gotten in the past few years. Considering that ToT is MORE than a few years old, it would be an example of how Disney USED to be. Before = ToT. After = Suckin Roller Coaster. Any questions????????????

To say Disney has gotten cheap is a wrong statement. To say they arent as good as Universal would be the correct statement. In roughly the last ten years Disney has opened tons of new major thrill rides in their parks. Tower of Terror, RocknRoller, Buzz Lightyear, Dinosaur, Test Track, Fantasmic, and Splash Mountain. And thats not mentioning all their other improvments such as Millionare in MGM which is quite fantastic. Roughly in the last ten years they have opened three new theme parks. Animal Kingdom, MGM, and California Adventure. The opening of these parks is a major investment and they are still able to update their other parks with rides such as Buzz Lightyear or the dismal Alien Encounter. Now some of these rides might not be on par with IOA, but they are still world class rides. You cant expect them to shell out rides like crazy. They do have ALOT of parks to maintain. This year they were only able to open one major attraction in WDW. That attraction is Millionare. Besides Millionare, nothing is new. The reason for this is California Adventure. Disney has spent the last year investing their time in the new theme park. Disney has been spending out dough like crazy and producing some great rides. Test Track WAS going to be great, but they simply couldnt get it to work. They had to redesign the ride and make it less technologically advanced. It is still a good ride, but not great. I have hope in Disney and think they are doing a good job keeping their parks fresh. But as I said before, I would go to Island of Adventure any day of the week over Disney. But I wouldnt say Disney is a "cheap company".

Disney is CHEAP. Look at the insides of RnRC. Look at the insides of Buzz or Millionaire. Do you think ANY of that costs what ToT cost to make? Of course not. And that caca about them opening new parks is crap. You dont open new parks AT THE EXPENSE of your other parks. AK is a year older than IOA and it is WAAAAAAAAY smaller than IOA. And all they are adding now is a coaster and two kiddie rides? WHOOPEE! EVERY theme park knows the only way to get people into the parks when they are having attendance problems is to create new attractions. Maybe people in Florida can tolerate halfsize parks for fullsize prices, but Disney isnt getting away with it in California. DCA gets barely 10 thousand people a day through their gates. They finally had to lower the price for Southern Californians and let their kids in FREE, that is how bad the situation is down there. Theme parks have to stay competitive. If your attendance is up (like it is at IOA and USF and MK) you can get by without a new attraction each year. If attendance is stalling or even falling, you simply have to add something new every year. Theme parks across the land all do it. Disney needs to stop building half-baked theme parks and start building great attractions again.

MGM RocknRoller Coaster is a fun ride with good themeing. Compare it to Flight of Fear and you can see that Disney probably spent the maximum amout of money for this style coaster. Disney has invested more in their theme parks and properties than any other company in the world. I know that talks have been underway at the WDWCO for some time and they are planning a new coaster park. They have to give IOA a run for the money and Im sure will sooner or later. If you want to talk about cheap parks, maybe we should be talking about Six Flags. IMHO

What a bunch of morons...I give about every GOOD reason why they arent cheap, yet they still come back with their stupid argument. How the F is Buzz Lightyear a "cheap" ride. RRC has the BEST theming for any roller coaster in the WORLD. Millionare is an almost EXACT replicate of the T.V. show. California Adventure is a small park, but its attractions are Disney class. To say Animal Kingdom is small is TOTALLY NOT TRUE. It may not have the most attractions, but in terms of size it is the biggest theme park in the ORLANDO, IF NOT THE WORLD ( not sure about the world ). IOA is the BEST theme park in the world. It is hard to compare any theme park to it. Disney has had some good and some bad attractions in the last 3 or 4 years, but once again to say they are cheap is totally false and something not worth arguing about...

IOA has excellent rides and attractions BUT they have few compared to a lot of parks. IOA also has the advantage of being new. Time will tell. I wonder if the Hulk and Spidey will be getting rave reviews 25 years from now.

True...Disney really isnt about huge thrill rides. Over the last 10 years they have gotten a lot more thrill rides to compare with the compitition, but that doesnt change their attitude with theme parks. Once again, they arent cheap. They have the best maintained theme parks in the country and have to deal with getting new attractions for multiple parks. It has been exceptionaly difficult of late because of the additions of Animal Kingdom and California Adventure. Id be the first to agree that they are both lacking the number of attractions they have, but look at AK. They are undergoing major projects including a Disney first- Inverted Coaster. Disneys family rides havent stopped either. They are adding a land to AK which is geared for familes including a spinning coaster. Disney is continuing to add attractions, do they need to renovate some of the old ones like Star Wars, yes. But IOA is a milestone in theme parks not just in Orlando, but the world. It is "thrill" oriented, something Disney is not. Disney does its job though- Give familes the ideal place to visit on vacation. Think about how much stuff there is to do outside the themeparks. Then compare that to other resorts, like Universal for example. They have a lot more on their mind then just attractions. Golf, restaurants, hotels, cruises, etc... Considering the amount of things they have, I think they do a great job...

Dont BE talking bad about Seuss Landing! I LOVE that place! (Which, BY THE WAY, doesnt have one single thrill ride. What is up with IOA being called just a park for "thrill seekers" anyhow? Three roller coasters and a freefall ride make the whole park for thrill seekers? So Popeye, Dudley, Jurassic Park, Sindbad, Poseidon, Seuss Landing, etc are all thrill rides? Then I must be getting really brave in my old age.)

Back to Disney being CHEAP. THEY ARE! Supposedly secret documents have been revealed to the public saying that they were cutting back on how they build new projects. Stores and restaurants would get maximum theming so as to entice visitors to spend money there. Attractions would get minimal theming since no one was buying anything while in line or on the ride. This was prior to DCA, which couldnt adhere to that credo any better. Carnival rides are NOT Disney-caliber rides. And they are extremely CHEAP. If you think Disney isnt cheap, then you need to look at their books. IOA was built for almost the same amount as was spent building DCA, Downtown Disney AND the humongous parking garage. It was originally supposed to cost THREE times that much for the whole project. If you think cutting costs by two-thirds isnt cheap, then Id hate for you to be my Secret Santa.

Someone mentioned the current project at Animal Kingdom. All it is is a Dumbo clone, two small barely-themed mouse coasters and carnival games. This is not only CHEAP, but LAME to boot. Anyone who happily pays $50 for this deserves what they get.
