Review of GhostRider @ Knotts Berry Farm
-5 Rating Posted by: Andrea02 on 5/27/2003 3:21:00 AM
I know I am going to get a lot of flack for posting this review, but I can take it. This is supposed to be for HONEST opinions about rides, and this is my opinion. I do not care if the entire planet likes something - if I do not like something, I am not afraid to say so. Maybe my not liking this ride has to do with the fact that I do not generally like roller coasters to begin with, although there are some exceptions. I thought that this one didnt look too bad so I got on it after about an hour in line. I didnt find the drops or twists too terrifying or anything like that, but when I rode it, it was really rough. A few times I bounced up out of my seat a little (not just on the drops) and hit my thigh on the lap bar pretty hard. The three people that went on with me generally love roller coasters, and Im talking the major thriller upsidedown things that I dont like. Of them, two agreed that Ghost Rider was too rough and bouncy, and the other loved it and went on it a few more times. So of course it is a matter of opinion. But flame me if you will, this is my opinion and Im expressing it.

I respect your opinions of the ride (at least you gave some reasons instead of just saying "It Sucked"), and I plan on riding it later this summer (so I dont know what its like) but you said you dont like rollercoasters: why did you become a member of the website then? Kinda confusing...

Drevil is right. I dont like roller coasters but I love other rides, such as log flumes (Splash Mountain, Jurassic Park), motion rides, and I loved Tower of Terror. Im just a chicken on certain things. Actually the reason I came on the website in the first place was because I wanted to get some info on certain rides before I visited the parks and I ended up getting involved posting reviews.

I can understand why you dont like this coaster. Personally, I felt it was the best wooden coaster I had ever been on back when it opened in 1998. The thing was super fast and super smooth with lots of airtime... Nothing compared. Now however, its a different story. It has gotten MUCH rougher and each time i ride it i swear it just keeps getting worse. I used to love the speed and the power of the first drop, but now it rattles around so much near the end of that drop, its kinda hard to really enjoy. Im not a coaster wuss, though ive always hated rough woodies, ive been on the biggest and fastest steel coasters in the world so i know what a true adrenaline rush should feel like. Sadly, ghostrider just doesnt do it for me anymore. I think ill always love it becasue the airtime is still topnotch on the dips/drops, but it doesnt have that special something that it did when it first opened. Maybe Knotts should think of a massive refurbishment to restore this ride to its former glory. I just dont understand the recent roughness..just becasue a wooden coaster is 5 years old, doesnt mean it should become that rough. I sadly must take the wooden coaster crown away from ghostrider for now and give it to roar at SFmarine world...a true example that a woodie can go on in years and yet stay as smooth and fast as the day it opened.
