 Review of Cyclone @ Astroland
3 Rating Posted by: Vater on 12/20/2002 3:29:00 PM
This coaster is in a constant battle with Kennywoods Thunderbolt for my 2nd favorite woodie. My first ride was June 22nd, 2002, just 4 days before Cyclones 75th Anniversary. I only rode it three times, my first two being in the front seat, but it wasnt until my third ride, in the very back seat, that Cyclone became #2. A rough ride, yes, but the massive amount of padding in each car makes it not only tolerable, but fun. It has a wonderfully steep, ominous first drop, and the pacing thereafter is brilliant. A nice, slow turn overlooking the boardwalk perfectly prepares you for the next few airtime hills and 180-degree turns; but its the second half that gives this ride its superior status. Its unrelenting speed, coupled with superbly placed bunny hops and extreme laterals makes Cyclone a must for any coaster buff. A true gem.

I rode it last summer. Probably the best "classic" coaster on the planet.

Yup - you summed it up - the best. And the greatest thing is the padded, open seating - a ride alone in the back seat is really hellish - really delightful. Like being in a blender - exactly as a wooden coaster should be.
