Review of Millennium Force @ Cedar Point
-6 Rating Posted by: RideChick on 6/23/2002 12:02:00 PM
It deserves the nickname Millennium Forceless for a reason. I experienced zero airtime, the overbanked turns completely take out any lateral forces you generally feel on your body, and the transitions are so slow that you barely feel any verticals Gs either. This is no better than a drop ride for its anticipation and the repetition layout is pathetic compared to Superman at SFNE and EGF at Holiday Park. I wish the park would have went with something more creative, but they dumb down all their rides, so youre not able to feel anything much. I practically felt like I was in a simulator on those trains! Get some intensity at this park and some shorter lines or I dont think Ill return. You dont have the most rides in the country and expect people to go through 2 hour lines for Raptor, Mantis, and MF on the weekends. Ive never even had a 1 hour line hardly at all at parks with 1/3 of the attractions as here with similar attendance. I think standing by people all day is whats really annoying and not having a themed queue to go through.

Unfortunately my many experiences on Millenium Force have extremely differed from yours. This is not a Cedar Point review (have you forgotten that you are to be reviewing Millenium Force--not the entire park?) BUT I shall digress as well. Cedar Point is not a theme park while it IS an amusement park, thus the lack of fun-fun-silly-willy-esque theming throughout queues. Additionally, being a season pass holder for several years, I believe I am well rounded to say it is extremely rare that lines are any longer than an hour and a half for even the most popular rides, which isnt bad at all compared to what Ive waited at other parks.

Wow, you rated rides at Dollywood higher than Cedar Point. I agree that a long wait can take the fun out of a park.

I was at Cedar Point for two days, and I never waited more than an hour and fifteen minutes, it was a nice day too.

Saying CP isnt a theme park is a cheap way for them to get out of having to theme things. Hello? Remember Disaster Transport, Pirate Ride, the Frontier section, Camp Snoopy? I went on a Saturday and the lines were 2 hours. Are you calling me a liar? The short waits at Dollywood helped the ride feel a lot more important and helped get a better feel since I could reride a lot.

See this is what makes me mad,one person will say something about Cp that they did not like and then all these Cp loving freaks attack them for giving their own opinion. Now I think Cp is a good park but it isnt "all that".
Raptor on 6/25/2002 11:15:51 PM said:
For some reason I doubt RideChick has even been to Cedar Point.
bista on 6/25/2002 11:32:40 PM said:
Disney World--now THAT is a theme park. The theme to Disaster Transport is to that only: Disaster Transport. Frontier Town is only a portion of the park that is heavily themed, in addition to Camp Snoopy, which only exists because of the ties with Peanuts and Cedar Fair. It is only a minority of the park that is themed, thus, not a theme park. Rather, not a TRADITIONAL theme park, if that makes anyone feel any better.

No one called anyone a liar so chill on the defense. I dont know where you got that. Foolish.

Just because both times I went were on Saturdays doenst mean I havent been. CP freaks are some of the snobbiest people I have ever met since no matter what they really think, no park can match it. They may have not even been to other parks. Sure, they have good capacities and good workers or whatever, but that doesnt mean the individual rides are all that. I guess since I havent been everyday and as much as they have, Im completely ignorant on the park. Thanks for proving my point Raptor. Youve been most helpful. Millennium Force is no more than a reverse version of Superman The Escape with overbanked turns and a full circuit. But, like I said, compared to other hypers, its a 7 out of 10. I liked all three B&Ms, the two Supermans Ive been on, and Magnum and Steel Force better. This ride has all the moves, but it cant touch the others. Maybe with a 30 minute wait and rerides I would change my mind. For now, 2 hour 30 minute waits for this ride in particular on my visit was the shoot down. Its hard to enjoy a ride right after you wake up from the boring line. Endless groups of people surrounding you isnt pretty either. Thats where I like the themed queues at. They still wouldnt let us pick our seats either.
RideChick on 6/25/2002 11:41:14 PM said:
Oh, now youre calling me foolish? All parks are themed, just some more the others. This park realized they had no clue on how to do good theming, so they stopped. DT was an attempt which they didnt know how to keep up with and didnt decide to do anything about until a decade later... this year! To be honest, I think DT is one of the better and more unique rides at the park.
bista on 6/26/2002 8:53:33 AM said:
The only thing foolish about your post was your overreaction to someones opinion on whether or not youve been to Cedar Point. As aforementioned, I dont believe that theming a ride or two qualifies a park as a theme park. I guess amusement parks are nonexistent. Ah, and dont worry about us snobby "CP freaks" thinking that no park can match The Point...we KNOW no park can match it. Thats why we love it so much!

I made the mistake fo going to CP on a hot sunny saturday as well.. should have gone fishing instead
Raptor on 6/27/2002 1:56:20 AM said:
IOA does not smoke CP. IOA has 3 coasters worth riding, Spiderman, and two S&S towers which arent that great. That hardly compares to CPs lineup.
CrystaCstr on 6/27/2002 11:48:14 AM said:
IOA is beautiful though and I would rather walk around there for 2 hours without doing anything than spend 2 hours in the Millennium Force line. If I can ride a better coaster(as in Dueling Dragons or The Hulk) in 1/8 the time I can ride MF, I would go to IOA in a second! Theme parks will always be better than traditional parks since they have the creativity to actually theme the rides and not bore their guests senseless in a wrap-around queue. And dont pick on all these girls anyways!
bista on 6/27/2002 12:21:44 PM said:
Hahahahahhaha....better coasters....hahahahahahahahhahahahaha.............

To each HER own!
CrystaCstr on 6/27/2002 3:11:48 PM said:
Well, theyre better than one trick ponies like MF. They should have labeled that as a drop ride. CP just makes sure they get a record and return you back to the station. IOA gives you an *experience* with a little more imagination.
smk on 6/27/2002 5:01:58 PM said:
think before you call mf a one trick pony. it has airtime hills, insane speed, and tons of overbanked turns. cp does not build rides purely for records.
RideChick on 6/27/2002 5:55:33 PM said:
Shes pretty much right if you read my original review. I felt no airtime, the overbanked turns are repetitive and forceless, and you can get insane speed from Hypersonic, which actually has two tricks(the launch and the vertical tower). How do you know why CP builds their coasters? Theyre a business! They build so they get you into their front gate. Dont think theyre your best friend.
bista on 6/27/2002 11:53:06 PM said:
Nor is any other park, so theyre all evil and compassionless...bwahahahahaha.
RideChick on 6/28/2002 11:29:45 AM said:
Well, at least I dont treat them that way. Its pretty pathetic that your entire top 10 list is CP coasters and rides. If youve never been anywhere else, Im sorry. If you seriously think those are the best... Im sorry too.
smk on 6/28/2002 3:27:47 PM said:
id like to know what ride you were on, cuz i got great airtime on mf
bista on 7/1/2002 10:20:06 AM said:
Dont worry, Ive been to plenty of other parks. Cedar Point is my taste...great taste.
daptwa on 7/1/2002 3:29:02 PM said:
I agree with most of youre rating about MF. One thing you cant say is that this coaster is Forceless. If Im not mistaken it gets up to 93 mph. Yes 93 MPH thats not slow by any stretch of the imagination. I do agree with you that Cedar Point focus is to set records and get you back into the station. Millenium Force has way too much strait track. While the coaster is fast the stait track can make the it boring. Dont get me wrong this coaster a 10 but there are definate flaws. I would rather ride Superman Ride Of Steel at Six Flags New England which is far superior coaster to Millenium Force.
Brent on 7/12/2002 1:33:54 PM said:
RideChick, EVERYONE is entitled to there opinion. Everyone can like everything how they want, but sorry, your reasons for no liking MF as much as others are completely RIDICULOUS. There is absolutely, ABSOLUTELY, no way to NOT expierence MAJOR ejector air time on The first drop, the 182 hill, the 100 foot hill, and the small bunny hill. In fact, most coasters with air seem to have little hops with about 2 seconds of airtime, while MFs 4 hills are all 3-6 seconds. And if you mean postivie Gs too...there is no way NOT to feel EXTREME postivie Gs fromt he bottom of the drop all the way to the first tunnel. Im not bashing you, but sorry, you are either lying about your expierence, you went on the ride pessimisticlly, or something else. Like I said, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but your reasons are not acceptable.
Brent on 7/12/2002 1:37:33 PM said:
AND also, Cedar Point is SUPPOSED to be a Roller Coaster/Thrill ride park, NOT a theme park. If you want to be in a theme park with 3 coasters rather than going to a less crowded park with 15 coasters, stay in Florida.
bista on 7/12/2002 3:53:02 PM said:
Where are people getting the idea that there is "too much straight track" on MF? The only straight track lasts for 1-2 seconds while rounding back into the station before going into the final overbanked turn. Are you sure its MF that youre ranting about?
sfnesros on 7/15/2002 2:44:38 PM said:
brent, get over it, mf does not have that much airtime
daptwa on 7/15/2002 3:39:06 PM said:
Millenium force has more strait tract than that! Im not saying that this isnt still a great coaster. but it just has its flaws. Before and after the 2nd hill theres tons of strait before the 3rd hill theres tons of strait track and as you said right before you go back to the station.
RideChick on 7/15/2002 7:10:16 PM said:
Brent, I never said you were wrong for thinking that and you werent entitled to your opinion, but I felt more positive forces from Wildcat, more negative forces from Blue Streak, and a better ride from Raptor and Magnum. MF has a great first drop, but the ride isnt anything like what I know Intamin can do. My reasons are not acceptable because I dont agree with you? Maybe Ill like it more if I stand on my head and someone tickles by behind?

Also, I dont know of any theme parks with 3 coasters besides Holiday World and Magic Kingdom and yes I would rather ride the coasters there. You DO know that they have other rides besides coasters there though, right? At least they feel less crowded, hah! Quality over quantity.

Bista, MF does have a lot of straight track! Take a look at other Intamin hypers and steelies besides the SFA and SFDL Supermen and youll know what I mean.

ive been looking over this...geez guys give her a break. i have never been to Cedar Point although i want to but your all freakin out just cuz she gave the ride a 7. A 7 IS A GOOD RATING FOR A COASTER!! Jesus, you guys give out 10s to coasters as often as you blink...i admire someone who wont get sucked in to believe what everyone else thinks. I have no opinion about Cedar Point since I have never been there...but i have an opinion about what you guys have been ranting about. And even if Cedar Point is like heaven, you shouldnt be going psycho on somebody just because they dont agree with you
Raptor on 7/16/2002 2:14:36 PM said:
The reason we are doing this, B&M Rider, is because her complaints about the ride are idiotic. Apparently, she didnt ride the same Millennium Force, because everyone I know agrees that it has tons of gs, both positive and negative. Shes also complaining about straight track, and even though there really isnt that much of it like she makes it out to be, Cedar Point did NOT want Millennium Force to be like Magnum. Sure, they could have made a 310 foot version of S:ROS or Steel Dragon 2000, but thats just a giga version of Magnum. Millennium Force is designed for pure speed, and it seems *some* people cant grasp that concept.
