A pretty zippy woodie; the forested setting is great for it. Good air time as well.
It is just to wild on the twists and lack the hills.
Best wooden coaster in the park. I love the rides setting in the woods and the first drop gave good air, as did the following drop. The tunnel was the best part as it threw me around a lot and was just flat out wild. Afterwards was a boring turnaround, followed by a series of bunny hills that gave decent air time.
Im sorry, but i dislike this coaster very much. I usually dont mind wooden coasters even if theyre rough, but this was VERY rough.I would recommend to go on the Hurler. I enjoyed that 1.
Grizzly is a very fun wooden roller coaster through the woods and was my second favorite wooden coaster at Paramount behind Hurler. Located in the Old Virginia section of the park in the woods towards the right side of the park, Grizzly delivers a great ride. With everything but its lift hill concealed from view off the ride, trees hide the entire course making the ride a surprise. Finding the queue line took a while, but once I found it I eagerly ran in line and found the Grizzly to be a walk-on. Only running one train, capacity was an issue when I visited Paramount but with two trains Grizzly would have a good capacity. Running a blue train that sat 28 people, the times in between dispatches were lengthy and the workers could have been faster. Restrained by a black lap bar and a seatbelt, I was hyped up for my ride while waiting in line thanks to the roar of the train flying around a turnaround next to the clean station. My favorite seat was the back, but the front is also decent. Beginning the ride was a small dip out of the station and the train loudly approached the lift hill as the train made a screeching noise. The climb up the 87ft tall lift hill wasnt too quick, and you could see Grizzlys layout for the upper parts of the lift hill. Once at the top, Grizzly plunged down a decent first drop providing some nice floater air for backseat riders, followed by a large hill. Then Grizzly slowly traveled around a very flat U-turn and then dipped down a drop providing a nice burst of air-time for backseat riders. Following that was a small bunny hill giving front seat riders a brief moment of floater air, followed by Grizzlys famous tunnel. Inside the tunnel, riders in every seat are bounced around and shaken from side to side during this brief tunnel which is truely a one-of-a-kind experience. Afterwards is a large turnaround hill followed by a bunny hill giving front seat riders a nice instance of floater air, while backseat riders get some good air on the following drop after a violent jolt to the side of the car. Afterwards is another bunny hill providing no air-time. Then Grizzly shoots up another small hill providing front seat riders with a good burst of air-time, followed by another drop giving backseat riders more air-time. Then Grizzly flies over two more bunny hills still maintaining some good speed giving riders some more pops of air-time and then hits the brake-run. Grizzly is a relentless wooden coaster than has a wonderful layout through the woods and is one of my favorite wooden coasters. I would have given Grizzly a 10 if there was just a little more air-time and there wasnt that violent jolt after the second turn-around hill. I highly recommend Grizzly to wooden coaster lovers.
Near the front of the train the ride is pretty good, but towards the back the ride is a little rough for my liking. The setting is very nice and the tunnel is a high point. The ride is pretty respectable overall, but a few steps down from the truly great woodies.
Grizzly is a pretty good wooden that is currently one of my personal favorites. The setting is second to none, although the park just cut down a ton of trees in the queue line to make room for the new Go Kart Attraction.

The first drop is good, but then the worst part of the ride happens: a large second hill that is just slow, slow, slow around the turn-around. Whats worse is that the second hill it self isnt even that great. After that though, the ride has great pacing and is one wild ride! The third hill provides some nice air while it leads to a nice headchopper inside a tunnel. Inside that tunnel is one of the roughest sections of coaster track anywhere. Its just insane. Fortunitely that ends soon enough so the roughness is still enjoyable. The rest of the ride is more hills and turns all in the woods. Some provide good air, some dont. All in all, this is a good wooden, and a PKD classic, yet it still leaves a bit to be desired.
I had been waiting to ride Grizzly all day, and I was not dissapointed! This is one wild woodie, so Grizzly is a perfect name for it. From start to finish, this ride was throwing me all over the place with some spectacular laterals and even one or two spots of ejector air (which would have been better with less confining restraints!). The tunnel was totally awesome, and the speed of the ride didnt let up until the end. Grizzly certainly is a wild little woodie and should not be missed!
Out of all the wooden coasters at Kings Dominion, this is the signature one. The drops arent any big. But they are very nicely placed. Theres the first drop but the 2nd drop starts the fun part. You get bounced around like crazy and the tunnel is nuts. I dont know whats going on in the tunnel but it shakes you up all over the place left and right. Then it turns into a perfectly timed drop and another turn. Many turning bunny hops bouncing you everywhere. Very nice wooden coaster.
This ride is pretty rough but i love the airtime and the tunnel always gets me.
