This one of my favorite B&M inverts. The themeing goes along nicely with setting. Even though it may not be the tallest, longest, or have the most inversions, this ride still packs a punch.
My favorite ride at Great America and a pretty good B&M invert to boot. The first drop was steep and very fast and following that was an intense vertical loop with some strong Gs. Next came an insanely fast and furious upward helix which completely pinned me to my seat with very powerful Gs. After that was a very sudden and fast zero-G roll which gave me great hang-time and after that was a powerful corkscrew over a lake and then the ride finished up with another very powerful helix. Only negative was how short the ride was.
Arguably Paramounts Great Americas most popular ride, I was interested to see if Top Gun, an early B&M inverted coaster, could measure up with the newer and bigger inverts of today. I was very impressed that it absolutely could. The ride was essentially a drop into a vertical loop, followed by a zero-g roll, then a wing over and a spiral. The first few elements took place all around the queue of the ride, while the wing over and spiral moved behind all of this to take place over a marshy pond. Being accustomed to no less than five inversions on a B&M invert, I thought three might be a little weak. But there was nothing weak about this ride. It is incredible how much of a punch these coasters pack. They are intense and forceful, but smooth and comfortable at the same time. The final portion of the ride, over the pond, was quite extreme. I was completely satisfied with this one, and I did not feel it was missing anything. Good job, Top Gun! Great theming as well.
what more can I say, it would of gotten a ten if it wasnt so short.
A very fun and fast (feeling) coaster. Short, but action never stops, a very good ride
The first drop feels very high and I love looping over the queue line. It is also cool riding over that lake area. I also like the song Danger Zone in the queue line.
A pretty good ride. But nothing to compared to the king, "Alpengeist". Just too short.
Words cannot describe how great this coaster is. Its fast and intense, but its not rough. It has plenty of surprises and the ride seems to get faster as it gets to the end over the lake. Hands down the best coaster Ive been on yet. The only reason Im not giving it a 10 is that I know there are better coasters out there.
I actually like this better then the batman clones, which are little to intense. The inversions here are spaced out better, and the ending over the lake is really fantastic
Top Gun has the three E - Extreme, Exilerating Excellent! The B+M designers must have used Kurt Angles three Is when designing - Intensity, Integrity and Intelligence! You must ride front row left seat and the helix over the lake is X-treme! Ride top gun! Usually reasonable line aswell, no more than 20mins. Ride it at least 5 times when you go to Paramounts Great America! Top thrill What!?
