Its not really a mine cart ride, more of a dark ride. Generally, its the kind of ride even little kids or grandma can go on, unless theyre afraid of the dark. The open-seating coal cars alone will probably make it fun for the younger set. It moves at ~1/2 mile per hour, so no motion problems whatsoever for the coaster-phobic. Some of the mine sets it moves through are impressive - one cavern is huge. But its kind of a blah experience. You cant really understand what the guide is saying most of the time, and when you can, its not much better. At the end, you supposedly must rush out to escape an impending implosion, yet you still travel at a crawl and the explosion fx are no great shakes. It would be better if it found a way to embrace the Inner Cheesiness. Youre not missing much if you skip it, but you likely wont hate yourself for riding it.

I thought that this ride was old and charming. The effects were really out-dated and some parts were rather corny, but I still had a lot of fun on this ride. This ride is a great example of a classic dark ride. I also like the fact that the ride lasted a full seven and a half minutes, giving riders a nice break from the California sun. My one complaint is the ride vehicle. The sideways seating makes you slide into other passengers while going uphill, and the cram the carts with people. Overall it was a very nice attraction and a good way to escape from the heat.

The Calico Mine Ride was the original ride at the park (back before it was really a "park", and I think it still holds up today. This is not a thrill ride, as your train travels at a very low speed, but it is kind of exciting being in replicas of small, dark, claustophobic caverns and mines, on a train and track that feel quite rickety. The miner figures are pretty low-tech, but this ride does for mining what the Timber Mountain Log Ride next door does for logging. You get to glimpse what it would have been like to try to make a living this way. I also enjoy the large cave with stalactites and stalagmites, and the ending when the train has to "rush" to get out of a mine before the dynamite explodes. I do wish you could understand the guide a little better. After all these years Im still not sure I can decipher whats supposed to be being said.

I thought that the ride was good for the type of person who enjoys looking at themeing for a ride that goes the alarming, mindblowing, face - ripping speed of 2mph.

A true Knotts classic and great for the kids, although my 4 year old nephew got scared from the dark. Dont ride it after a long day, it is pitch black in areas and slow (great for taken your girlfriend!) Be ready for a tour. Its an 8 minute ride... I mean, give those ride operators a break, they have a spiel to recite, and if you listen it really is informative. Dont go on it expecting a thrill. Trust me, I know friends who operate it, and if they go the speed theyd like to, theyd get fired for running the red lights. Just sit back and listen to the guide. Educate your brain for once =P

Boring. I actually got my mom on this ride and she hates speed, hights, coasters, and dark coaster-like rides. Dont ride this unless you have the urge to or if you have small children.

Damn this ride was boring. Disney may not have "invented" this kind of ride, but they perfected it better than anyone (Well, Universial Studios does a good job with this sort of thing too.) First of all, this ride was surprisingly slow. I wasnt expecting a "thrill" ride, but this train was on "Gramdmas walker" speed. Plus it was just boring. One of the things that seperate the Disney versions of these rides from the second-rate ones like these is that Disney has a wonderfully campy, kitschy sense of humor in their ride design. Except for the tour guides woefully overdone country accent, that was definately missing here.

A good cheap laugh, but the ride was pathetic. We couldnt tell what it was from the park map, so we rode it. Good only to make fun of it.
