This ride was quick, fun, and fairly intense. The theming was pretty good, and I enjoyed the launch. My one problem is that the ride ended too quickly.

Date Ridden: Fall of 2006. Times Ridden: 1 Hmmmm.......I was trying to decide what coaster to review today and I ran across an old picture of the Mummy out on the west coast. Without a doubt, this is the inferior ride when compared to the Orlando version, but it is by no means bad. The theme is top notch, the ride is smooth, and the special effects are Disneyesque. Since the ride is totally indoors, weather is not a factor and this thing runs year around. The opening launch is pretty strong and the ride to the end of the lay-out is fast and furious. Once the ride stops and the bugs come to visit (fairly realistic feeling), the train simply reverses course and travels the track backwards. The ride is short but fun. By the time we rode once as the park was opening, the line had backed up and we went elsewhere in the park. The ride is so similar to a Disney ride in that the first experience is by far the best. Once you have ridden it once and seen all the surprises, then the coaster elements aren&#39..t really enough to make you want to stand in an hour long line. That being said, if you live in the west coast or are just visiting Universal Studios, do not miss the Mummy. The ride has no inversions and is smooth throughout in the large multi-seat trains. The experience the first time is well worth it. Overall Rating - 8

This ride is inferior to the Orlando version. Its half as long, and doesnt have the fire room. The launch is flat, while the Orlando coasters launch goes up a hill, which produces a decent little pop of airtime. If you havent ridden the Florida version, go do so. Then see how much you like this junky version of an excellent attraction.

Fun ride! I loved the indoor queue area and station. Even the outdoor queue which had a car being advertised was cleverly themed. The ride was fun. The lighting effects were pretty cool. It wasnt as pitch dark as I thought it would be. The backward part was cool. I was wondering how they did it. The ending wasnt that great though in my opinion.

Great ride though...too short.

This is one of the tuffer reviews for me. Ill start off saying that the theming for this ride is great, the queue line is very fun and the detailing is great. The ride itself is GOOD, not great. The launch isnt extremly powerful, and the ride feels very short. Normally Id be very happy with this ride, however it was so hyped up by Universal, that I expected something amazing. Universals website states that this is "The most advanced ride system every created", they were also hyping it throughout the park itself. If I were judging the coaster alone I"d give it a seven, but because of the great themeing and effects, Ill give it an 8.

While I do understand where the negative reviews may be coming from concerning this ride, I do not agree with them. I actually found Revenge of the Mummy to be the top attraction at Universal Studios. I have not been on the Florida version, so Im sure that gives me a better impression of the California version. Let me begin with what may perhaps be perceived as flaws of the ride. Most of the queue line is outside, so the theming is pretty minimal until you do finally make it into the building. The majority of the inside theming consists of a room with clips of the Mummy movies being shown, interspersed with some creepy woman chanting "Imhotep" an endless number of times. During the main roller coaster portion of the ride, the only real scenery are glow-in-the-dark mummies and skeletons which the track actually travels through. Now let me move to the positives. Despite the short length of queue inside, there are a few neat little interactive tricks set up aside from the video monitor. Also, this has to be one of the most efficient roller coasters ever. Trains are being dispatched constantly. I dont know how they coordinate the timing of all the different components of this ride, but they do. The trains are dispatched at a slow, track-ride type of pace. Here is where the best theming of the ride comes into play, as we see the mummy coming back to life, scarab beetles devouring a man screaming about the curse of Imhotep being real, a whole bunch of ghoulish hands and arms reaching down at the train from the ceiling, and then Imhotep himself, admonishing us that our souls belong to him. Just as he finishes this phrase, two mummy warriors jump down very quickly from the ceiling and the train gets launched into the coaster portion of ride. The launch is very good, and the coaster portion is too. Its very reminiscent of Space Mountain, with an emphasis on curves and little dips rather than huge drops and loops. Midway through, the train brakes hard to a stop, and we see some scarab beetles scurrying along the walls and even feel them at our feets! They then squirt at us, sending the train backwards through more dark track. Even if all we get to see are glowing cardboard mummy cutouts during these portions, Im fine with that. This is an enclosed ride in the dark, so Im not expecting to be able to see all that much. The ride concludes by pulling backwards into a desert scene experiencing an eclipse, and a major sandstorm completely surrounds the train, freeing us from the curse, spinning the track around to pull us forward back into the station. All in all, Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Hollywood reminded me of a mix between Indiana Jones and Space Mountain at Disneyland, and thats a pretty good pedigree.
