This six inversion arrow dynamics coaster performed perfectly for what i was expecting. Since I never got to ride shockwave at SFGAM ( only see it rust in a parking lot ) the demon is my arrow dynamics coaster experience and vortex was better than demon in every way but the retro themeing/landscaping. The ride was very smooth although the turn after the two loops was designed idiotically tight for such speeds, the rest of the layout was smooth and enjoyable. The vortex starts out with a turn and a big first drop up into a descending and ascending turn 240 degrees through two loops threaded by corkscrews. The aforementioned MCBR is applied heavily the train crawls down a pitiful drop into the corkscrews so slowly you have the sensation of being dumped out of the ride. Jolting transition to the left into the batwing feet away from the midway , this element was fantastic I loved it the best part of the ride no doubt the ride fizzles out with a helix into the brakes and At last the Vortex release it's grip upon you! Muahahahahqahah

The best looper ever. The smoothest ride is in the very back.

Another KI coaster...another unremarkable ride experience. A reasonably cool layout and historical significance (I believe it was the first 6-looper) give it some points, but it is rough and just not especially fun. These old Arrows no longer bang my head around, simply because I&#39.m tall enough that my head sticks out of the top of the restraints, but I still feel the roughness in other ways - more of just a full-body rattling, which I suppose has always been there, but which was in past years kept latent by the intense pain being simultaneously caused to my ears. Regarding this particular ride itself, it is, as most of the coasters go at KI, unbelievably average, with nothing really significant good or bad sticking out in my mind.

way too rough and beats you up sometimes but I love this ride, my record is 3 straight rides, front seat, without having to get off PLUS we went back around and got on the front for a 4th ride!

Decent Arrow looper. The first drop was great, as it was tall and gave some really good air in the back and the following hill gave good air for front seat riders. Then after a rough turn there were two decent and smooth vertical loops followed by another air time moment for the front and then another rough turn and then a brake run that killed the rides speed. Afterwards were two rough corkscrews and then a rough batwing element that did provide decent forces. Finally was an okay helix that was smooth, but pretty slow.

I would give this ride a 10 but this ride needs to be a little longer, the set up is awesome and the ride is brilliant, but the ride is too short. I think if they added some more flips and corkscrews then this ride would be on of the craziest rides in the world. This ride is smooth and you can have a lot of fun on this ride.

Tip: Try not to ride is when is is pouring down rain and your sitting in the very front seat. It hurts...

out of all of my top rides, this is my first review out of them that will not recieve a 10 from me. going upside down just never really did it for me. although i dont mind it at all.... (it is still very adreniline pumping for me) i just prefer the wooden coaster elements of a good coaster ride. wood or steel....the magnum for example..a steel coaster with huge leaps & dips & some tight turns & airtime. but the first drop on the Vortex is one of the best i have experienced..but just seemed slow through the inversions.

Another awesome creation from Arrow, one that I could care less if I never rode again. Despite the great first drop, this ride just beat my to death. Probably a combination of my size and the fact that it was about 95 degrees and I was already feeling a bit weak (not like this is PKIs only rough coaster) but still, I can only tolerate so much. The loops were ok, as usual pretty forceful and among the smoother segments, but anywhere this ride began to move laterally (corkscrews, turns, etc) it just was hard to not feel the pain. Id like to ride again but wont settle for anything less than the magic seat next time.

As with many Kings Island attractions, I have an extensive history with this ride. I remember when the Vortex was the tallest ride (other than the Eiffel Tower) in the park, and it towered over the Beast next to it. Apart from my nostalgia with the whimsical sentiments of my youth, my formerly grand opinion of the Vortex has shrunk over the years. It suffers from that 1980s steel coaster design limitation of stacking inversion after inversion, and doing nothing else. Bolliger and Mabillard perfected this design philosophy in 1993 with Kumba, and the rougher, less refined Arrow loopers havent looked so great since. Although they briefly resurged quite effectively with Tennessee Tornado in 1999, this was a short lived victory.
With proper seat selection and a careful riding technique, the Vortex can actually be fun. The second to last row is my favorite, because it is forceful yet relatively smooth. The first drop in particular is excellent in that row.

This is a little rough for a steel coaster. The ride looks like it is faster from the line than it actually is. The layout is good but the lack of speed causes a lack of intensity throughout the ride.
