Date ridden: Summer of 2207. Times Ridden: 2 If you are a coaster enthusiast, this is the reason you visit Castle Park.Along with Patriot, these are 2 of only 3 or 4 Hopkins coasters located in the United States. And let me tell you something, despite the harsh climate it faces, this coaster is very fun. It is rare in todays lawyer infested theme parks that one gets the opportunity to go through inversions without OTSRs but here is a chance to do so. For that reason, there is no fear of head banging and the ride itself is smooth and comfortable. The inversions themeselves (simple loops) have enough strong Gs to really pin you in your seat. The ride, while not long, is still lengthy enough to provide a satisfying overall experience and well worth a grade of 7. I actually thought about an 8 but in this case I think I will round down since there are no really stand-out features worthy of a full point bump up. I would not make a special trip to Phoenix just for this park but if you are in the area stop in and visit. We were finishing a loop that had taken us out to Lagooon and Cliffs so this was on our way back to Vegas and became one of the most pleasant surprises of the trip. Desert Storm is more than simply a credit. It is a good coaster from a little known designer that succeeds despite its location and horrible weather conditions. I respect that.

Desert Storm was a really good coaster that surprised me. The first drop was rather tame, but it was smooth and the ride built up some good speed. Following that were two very smooth and insanely forceful loops which pinned me to my seat. Then came two very fast and forceful helixes.

I laugh as I see the piece of crap Patriot has a higher rating than this ride. I have to give this ride props because its the closest thing we have to a thrill ride in AZ really, and that some years back it was the first coaster with inversions I had ridden (ok, I didnt have many choices there). But its a fairly smooth ride (fairly) and its pretty comfortable and smooth. The line is always long though, and annoying 13 year olds (no offense to the cool ones that age, I know some of you are out there) fill the park daily. Its ok, the best we have around, but Id say drive to Vegas or Cali or anywhere with decent coasters a few hours away to get real thrills.

It is pretty surprising to see a double looping, white and green coaster in a park that was once merely a regular mini golf park. The first drop wasnt half bad i admit, but the inversions are pretty unique. One of them enters from a lower level, the other actually has a small twist to it--a twist. Its like what Anton did awhile back.
Thanks to the lack of shoulder restarints, it can be pretty smooth + it wuz comfy 2. The ride, like so many others, was actually rather short, but it equaled shorter lines when I was there, so i rode it 13 times. Try not to miss this hidden piece by Hopkins.

Not bad, but not great either. Its certainly unique, and one of the few coasters built by Hopkins. Its nice to that it doesnt have OTSRs on it, as otherwise it would be very painful on some of the turns and the loops. But as it is, it works pretty well. Certainly worth a ride or two, but not one that youll likely be riding a lot. Their loading procedures are a major pain though, especially if youre there on a slow day, as they wont dispatch the ride without a certain number of riders on it.

I found this too be a mediocre looper deserving of an eight. The wait was non-existent so that was definitly a big plus. After the loop the train goes into 2 very smooth loops, one with a small twist near the end providing some good gs. The 2 loops are pretty strong so OTSRs arent needed, eliminating the possibility of head-banging. At the top of the second hill there is a nice pop of air-time up near the front of the car. A few more twisting drops and helices follow, most notably is the second helix following the loop which provides some nice laterals. One really fun aspect of this ride is how it goes through other rides. We dove under the dripping flume, getting us surprisingly wet! LOL After that the train is slowley lowered back into the station with a few smaller helices. Even though they were only running 1 train and only 1 operator there wasnt a wait through-out the whole day. Like many Hopkins coasters the front and back seat on this ride are much different. The back seat pulls alot of gs (especially in the second loop) while the front is relatively tame. The back also has a lot of laterals, and without OTSRs you slide around alot! LOL A 1 ride ticket was only $2 and an all day pass for the park was only 15$. Thats pretty cheap when you think about the selection of rides and length of this coaster. It was a pretty good deal so I bought an all day pass If your in the pheonix area Id suggest going to this fun park!

If you read my review for the Patriot you have already realized that this coaster has sentimental value.A few reasons for me liking this one is because I first rode it when I was 4 so it made me feel brave & it was my forst upside-down coaster.ROFL

For a small ride it wasnt too bad. In fact, it was my first rollar coaster ride that had upside down loops in it. Naturally I had to go on it 3 more times. I heard a summer or two ago the ride actually got stuck in place and people had to be rescued from the cars. Hmmmm. Well, it certainly adds an element of interest.

its ok, for the only coaster in AZ but save your money and to the nearst Six Flags if you can it will be well worth it.
