Review of Big Thunder Mountain @ Magic Kingdom
0 Rating Posted by: HowieP on 6/16/2006 2:18:00 PM
What the hell is this? That's what I thought while riding Big Thunder Mountain. There was no speed whatsoever. It makes a great family ride, but that's about it. However I do give a thumbs up on theming, good job in that department, Disney. Too bad the coaster wasn't as good. UPDATE 10/15/2011: I am amending this review. I went back to Magic Kingdom this year and gave Big Thunder another go. It ran a lot better than my last experience. Plus it helped that I sat near the back this time around which enhanced the ride experience by a lot! So all of those negative comments I got for this review now is null and void! Big Thunder has bumped up in my ratings.

Come on Howie this is Disney it is a runaway mine train not the Space Shuttle. For a 30 yr old family coaster it does the trick. Five may be a bit harsh.

Maybe youre right, vbarbieri. It would make a good family coaster, but it wasnt for me. Would it help if I give it a 6?

No, what I am saying is what do you expect. Arent you the Howie from 2Xs on Mission Space fame? Eventhough you got whipped the first time. I think it should be rated on what it is, a classic coaster that will never set your hair on fire or thrill you like the rides at many other parks. Disney rides for the most part are family rides.

Duely noted, vbarbieri. Its Disney, for crying out loud!

And besides that, Ive heard that the BTMR at Disneyland (both California and Paris) is much better than this one.

You have heard? Thats great. Like vbarbieri has said the Magic Kingdom is a family park so you should expect a family style coaster here. Just look at it. Its not that high and its a mine train.

See comment no# 5, taylorb251. I should have mentioned that I was with family when I rode it! Tell you what. I plan on going to Disneyland in California pretty soon, and Ill ride the BTMR they got and well see if my opinion will change. And as far as the Disneyland version being better, I read different reviews from other Theme Park sites (CoasterForce.com)that have mentioned it was better than WDWs. Its my opinion. You dont have to like it, you dont have to agree with it, but its mine. Thats the point of a review!

I didnt disagree with your review as much, as your comment numeber 6. You said you heard the two other ones are better, so it would make a better case for your self. Also I have my opinion that is the point of the comment board.

I stand corrected.

I agree with you completely Howie. This ride is nothing special. Just cause its a family coaster, doesnt mean it can not be exciting. The theming on this coaster is great, but thats about it. A good family coaster is The Mummy. That is a great family coaster.

B&M Fan thanks for saying exactly what HowieP said in his review.

Not a problem. I was just stating how I feel about the ride.
