Review of Wildcat @ Lake Compounce
1 Rating Posted by: Canobie Coaster on 7/26/2005 6:32:00 PM
Now I'm not one to hate wooden coasters and usually I really like them. In fact, I hate to bash wooden coasters, especially ones as old as the Wildcat. However, the Wildcat is unfortunately deserving of a low rating due to the ride's far too numerous flaws and the lackluster ride it has provided time after time.

Well looking at the ride it looks great and it looks like it will give a great ride, but unfortunately that isn't so. But, I just love the ride's location in the center of the park and it really captures the classic and traditional feel of Lake Compounce. Lines generally aren't too long for this classic, but they are slow moving due to a frustrating one train operation. To add insult to injury, that one train only seats 18 people! Yikes!

Until I first rode this, I was expecting a good ride. However, once the ride began those expectations were shattered. Despite having an out-and-back layout with a ton of hills usually is a recipe for a ton of air, the ride is just totally devoid of air. Absolutely none can be found in any of the ride's seats, which is baffling and extremely disappointing, especially since they have another woodie that absolutely delivers killer air. The only forces that can be experienced at all are a few decent laterals, but other than those few laterals, the whole ride is just so slow and boring.

Despite the mediocre ride it provides, Wildcat is still worth a ride while at Lake Compounce due to its classic nature since while it's dull, it isn't really all that rough like others have said. It’s really a shame since the park undeniably has a world-class coaster in Boulder Dash, but lacks a great coaster to compliment it. Though a beautiful coaster to look at, the Wildcat doesn't ride nearly as well and just is an all-around dull ride experience.

I thought it was very smooth for a wooden coaster and my girlfriend, a general wood-hater, enjoyed the ride and found it smooth as well. Perhaps you rode in the back where I can imagine it would be roughter...

I rode in the middle of the 2nd car. However, my dad came off with a bruise and I banged into the car again and again. Compared to most coasters I ride, this one was very rough for me.

Ive found that if you ride Wildcat in a seat over an axle it is indeed very rough. Try a different seat next time, you may enjoy it. Though it has almost no airtime, it does have that classic "out-of-control" feeling you can only get on wood.

I will try that. I did that on the Yankee Cannonball, and it was very smooth.

Well the Yankee Cannonball was just re-tracked, it is very smooth wherever you sit.

I rode it Last Week, and it was retracked by GCI. Also it got brand new trains. Now its an air-time machine. Its now better than most wooden coasters!

I just updated my Wildcat review and the more I ride it, the more I am disappointed by it. It just never gives a really fun ride.

Cannonball doesnt have Brand new trains they just swaped out last years train and its rehabbed in house with a new paint job. Wildcat is very rough this year hopefully this can be fixed quickly.

Same here. The layout looks like it could provide air-time if it got some work done to it.

It has been running very very rough. I enjoy it, it has potential for air on those last bunny hops, if it only had a little more speed.

I find that a problem on many of the older coasters. The first half is great but they dont take advantage of the second half.

Sadly, that was the case with the final bunny hills on the Yankee Cannonball yesterday. Last year and earlier this year they provided some good air, but yesterday they didnt.
