Review of Vortex @ Canadas Wonderland

I think this may have been the roughest suspended coaster I have ever been on. Lots of bad vibrations and even some headbanging on it. It does have a nice location, up the mountain and over the water, but it also feels like it is going to fall apart and fall in.

Uh, yeah, the ride is rough. It was vibrating like no other suspended coaster I have ever been on, and like no coaster should. Next time you should log in if you are going to make a derogitory comment.

No. Seriously. You ARE a wuss. The ride(as far as i know) has never failed with its vibrations. So why should it fail on YOUR time riding it? You should be grateful you got to ride at all!

Cyclonic actually echoes my notes on this ride. Its a decent ride, and the layout is interesting, but its very rough for a suspended coaster and packed with vibrations. vcfreak, Id suggest upping your coaster count and getting some more quality rides in before you criticize people so.

Im not criticizing anything! Upping my coaster count? what for? Is that even relevant to this discussion? Hey, i dont blame him for feeling a little unsafe, but dont diss the ride cuz of it. It would be boring if it was COMPLETELY rigid. When I went on my school trip, I was walking around and i heard a distant sound, like a train coming nearby. Vortex then SCREAMED over me as i looked up, and it raced around a corner. I WANTED to go on it for that reason alone!

Thats great that you wanted to go on it. But, to use a term like "wuss" for his reactions to it, and saying he should be "grateful he got to ride at all" is relaying the impression that this coaster is somehow a piece of "perfection." Which, if you upped your coaster count a bit and saw what was actually at there (in speed, smoothness, quality rides, perfect rides, among other things) then you would realize that his review is very justified as are his comments.

Now that I realize it, yeah, Im sorry. I guess "wuss" was a TAD extreme, but why dont you tell mr. anonymous up there who brought it up first! And I just did my coaster count... Sorry, havent been to too many parks, but coasters inspire me.

I am happy to see that you are very excited by coasters, but I think you need a bit more experiance before you can accuse others of not knowing what they re talking about.

I have been on four different Arrow suspended coasters, Vortex included, and while this is not the worst layout, I believe that this is the worst constructed of the ones I have ridden. It vibrates in ways it should not, and to know that you really have to ride more of these coasters. Particually worrisome is the brake run, where the entire tower rocks back and forth as the train comes to a halt. None of the others do that, not even its twin at PKI. To further this, I do not feel that any of the coasters at Canadas Wonderland were particually well cared for, and I found their flats to be far superior to their coasters.

See, heres the thing. I NEVER accused you of "not knowing anything" or being "wrong". It DOES shake, but you need to think once and awhile and realize that the designers did it to encourage thrill-seekers. If it was unsafe, theyd take it down. If it never broke down before from the "vibrations", why would you get the impression that it would do so on your run? I NEVER went on a suspended coaster before, so I guess ill take your advice to heart when going on it this summer. But the main focus of theme park rides are to have fun. Wonderlands main priority is safety, so dont worry! And no offense, but your review makes the ride look TOTALLY bad. Dont you have any good points? It will make everyone else think its bad.

"It does have a nice location, up the mountain and over the water..." I think I explained it pretty well, both the good points and the bad points. As I said, I did not feel comfortable with the construction or maintaince of the ride, and feel that the vibrations caused by the seeming under-construction cause an unnessicaraly rough ride. I am not so much concerned about it falling apart as I am the poor design giving a poor ride simply because it is under supported.

I know it is your home park and all, but man, you are defending a ride you yourself have not even ridden yet. Honestly, I contend that the only decent coasters in that whole park is your mouse coaster, The Fly, and the junior woodie, Scooby Doos Ghoster Coaster. The rest were moderate to poor rides. Again, not so much against the rides, but more against the maintaince of the rides, which seemed to be seriously lacking.

Well I can tell you Ive been on Wild Beast and thought it was a blast, but thats just me. And yes, it is my homepark but I live NEAR Toronto. Im not necessarily defending the ride; I guess im edgy to try it. Nor am I trying to start anything. I was just basing my opinions on what I SAW. I guess if anything, i should be at the wild beast topics... heh

Ive ridden Vortex more than a few hundred times, and Cyclonic has a point about certain things. That brake run ending is scary every time it happens. The structure just should NOT shake like that. I dont agree with his "vibrating" business, however there is a very noticable pothole in the ride [coming off of the first big swooping turn] which jars the body. I can see why people wouldnt enjoy the ride - but I have never ridden it and felt that it was vibrating or too rough at all. In fact, outside of the pothole I mentioned, it seemed very smooth to me. Ive ridden its offshoot at PKI, as well, and enjoy Vortex more, due to the setting and the fact that it seems [not that it is] faster to me. Ive also been on Iron Dragon, which I dont think is fair to include in comparison to Vortex. I didnt think either TG or Dragon were a "step up" on Vortexs maintenance, either. Wonderland takes care of [most] of its rides, with constant re-tracking of perceived rough areas, painting done on most of them, and none [outside of the SLC and Minebuster] run too rough on any given day. Maybe youve just been spoiled by smooth coasters in your life, I dont know, but I dont see how Vortex is "rough" and not cared for well by the park.
