I've been stuck on the lift hill of Villain for a few minutes. Also, not really a brake down, but the ride operator fell asleep while I was riding the Black Widow at the former Geauga Lake.

Oh, I'd hate to be stuck on an SLC...especially one's whose lifts are over water.

I got stuck on the lift hill of The Beast. That's about it. Imagine getting stuck on the top of MF or TTD!

I haven't been stuck on a coaster before, but I got stuck on Splash Mountain. "You're journey through Splash Mountain will continue in a moment". It was so funny.

We got stuck on the block brakes on Collossus @ SFMM, so we got a double ride, and just the other day, I got stuck on Mindbender @ SFOG because the station brakes locked too early (the train was half in hte station, half out)

I cant begin to count how many times I have broken down on Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom. Those two rides alone have turned me away from Disney permenantely.

On Splash, you have to listen to that frickin song and all that annoying sounds the ride makes.

And on BTR, when you break down in the mountain you get to see just how cheesy the theming really is there. They have paper bats and random pointless stuff that people seem to think are just brilliant. I tried to steal one of the paper bats because we were in there for about 1.5 hours, but I got busted. Funny thing was, they couldn't kick me out because we were stuck there.

I think the only reason why the theming is so cheesy is because people just fly by it all and then that is it. But i do agree with the pointless things. It is rediculious!

When i was at SFNE Superman has broken down, The chain stopped moving. People were stopped about 10 feet from the top for about 45 minutes!

All of my stories here are from Dorney Park.... what a surprise huh
Not that the place is poorly kept, just that I am there all of the time. Didn't want to give the wrong impression.
I have never personally gotten stuck but have seen if a few times.

There was this one time on Hercules back in I think it was 1999 when the train got stuck on the finally brake run for about 15 minutes. The whole time the ride ops and techs were looking at the track. Eventually the one tech just kind of brushed something away with his foot and kind of did a little wave and was like "Ok Ok Ok...." We were all standing there like "Ohhhhhhh....."

This past June, I saw Steel Force get stuck at the very top of the lift hill, just as it was starting to creep down the first drop. The rescue squad and fire departments came and got everyone out within an hour. The ride was closed for about 4 days after that.

This past Halloweekends, Talon got stuck half way up the lift hill. It only took about 5 minutes to fix that though. It was at night, and at night as the train goes up the lift, lights go on simaltaneously. It was kind of funny seeing the lights stuck half way up too for that long of a period of time.

If it's 90+ degrees out i can guarantee that i will get stuck on a ride with OTSR. Usually it ends up being the corkscrew so I about have a clausterphobic fit. God I hate that ride at CP.

I got stuck on nija at MM. It was extremely uncomfortable. We were staring into the sun on a pretty steep lift. 5 minutes felt like forever... :puke:

First, I didn't think that the lift was steep at all. Typical suspended lift. Also, was it the first or second lift?

I was stuck on the lift of The Beast some years ago, during the time when I was terrified of every coaster. The only other time I can remember is I was stuck on Spider-Man the first time I rode it, and they gave us another ride, which worked fine. That was when it had just opened, and they were still working out the bugs.

I got stuck at the top of the second lift on Zoomerang the first year it opened for like half an hour in 110 degree weather under the blazing sun (not fun ). It got stuck alot the first few seasons (cuz it´s a Vekoma, obviously.)

I´ve also been stuck on Boulder Dash twice, once because of ride op error (the train wasn´t dispatched properly out of the station and got stuck at the bottom of the lift hill) and this pass season I got stuck on the brake run.

I've been stuck on the bottom of the lift hill on Boulder Dash for a good twenty minutes and it was the last ride of the day.

Also stuck for about twenty minutes on Roar (SFA) on the brake run and they finally had to manually unlock the restraints to let us out on the brake run exit

Yup....not once, but twice on the Cyclone lift hill at SFNE! Both times were only for a few minutes, one was due to a mid summer power outage...the whole park shut down for about 40 seconds or so, and the other time the chain got stuck...a ride tech walked up along side the cars to the front of the train, pulled something(probably debris off the track) and then we resumed climbing the hill. My other experience on a broken down ride was at the Magic Kingdom. Honest to God....we were stuck inside "It's a Small World" for 20 minutes!!!!

What happens if the power fails and there´s two trains on the track: one´s airborne and the other´s stopped in the loading station? If the brakes are powered by electricity how do they stop the train in motion from slamming into the other train? I know back in the day most wooden coasters had manual brakes but I don´t think that´s the case anymore.

From The American Roller Coaster:

"Regardless of what type of brake is in use, a fail-safe measure is designed into the system. In default position, the brakes are always on. Only when a force such as compressed air, springs, or old-fashioned brute strength is allpied are the brakes disengaged so that trains may pass. In the event of a power failure or loss of air pressure, the brakes thus are set to automatically engage, bringing all trains to a stop at the next full braking location."

Does that help?

Yes it does, Bob. I knew there had to be some kind of safety measure. Just couldnLt imagine what. Guess ILve got alot to learn

Broken down rides I've been on:
Six Flags America (my home park)
Superman Ride of Steel: It was raining, and the train pulled into the station... a couple inches too far, and the mechanism that releases the safety bar from underneath could not function. Had to sit in there a while until maintenance came and pushed the train backwards a couple inches.
Mind Eraser: The ride had finished and our train was on the brake run. There was a problem with the other train (it wouldn't depart) so I was stuck on there for about a half hour.
Typhoon sea coaster: The mechanism that's supposed to push the car down the track after turning it backwards did not push at all. The operator pushed with all his might and got us down.

Mall of America/Camp Snoopy
Tumbler (that big orange thing by the arcade) on my very first visit to the mall of america, and my very first ride on this gadget, it broke when we were way up top, wow was I scared (I was only 9). We sat up there for a few minutes and the mechanic climbed way up there and got us all down.

Kings Dominion
Volcano: The ride operator pressed dispatch when one of the riders was not secured. He hit emergency stop so the train did not take off after we rounded the corner. Instead it just stopped (where the launch should have started)... for a while. Until maintenance came and reset the ride.

Six Flags Great America
Batman: I'm not sure what happened here, except that we were in the brake run for about 15 minutes.

I haven't been on a coaster that has broken down, but I have been on a flat ride that broke down. In late October 2004, I was at Six Flags America on the Krypton Comet when it broke down. I was partially upside down for about two minutes before the ride was fixed.

3 or 4 weeks ago hubby and I were on The Mummy at Universal and it broke down. We were stuck for about 30 minutes. Good thing was that there was a guy on the ride that was very entertaining... so we weren't bored. A recording kept playing every few minutes that said the ride would begin again momentarily. I always thought the word momentarily meant within a few moments... in this case, it meant half an hour. The bad thing about being stuck was my lapbar was brought down really tight and I couldn't move not even an inch. The backs of the seats are so straight that after about 10 minutes my back starting hurting really badly. It wouldn't have been bad if the lapbar hadn't been so tight.

Welcome to the site Cherriest, as you can see I haven't been here very long but still, welcome to the site!

So, are you coming to the dark side with me and digging up the old threads? I have a habit of doing that... I just can't help posting when it is something very interesting like...

The only ride I ever got stuck on was at my home park which is very surprising because the park is very well maintained. We were climbing the lift hill that was approximately 200 feet tall and the car stopped. It was when the coaster was first installed and they had to put a shield on the front of the car because it was getting to much wind from the lake. It has never happened since it first opened. The ride was Magnum XL 200 at Cedar Point.
