Has anyone been to Six Flags New Orleans? I've seen pics of the park, and it looks like a very nice park, and much different than the other SF parks. I might be going down to Lousiana this year for our band trip, and if we go down there we'll spend a day at SF NO. So, what's the place like?

I think it'll be cool to go on those band trips in a couple of years. I think we get to go to NYC and other cool places.

Actually, MovieCoast, I have the whole report written down so I can post it but it would cover many a page and post. Maybe I'll do it in fragments...
Anyway, basically, the park is very enjoyable and has had an unbelievable remodling. I went to the park when it was Jazzland and, I have to say, if it wasn't for the coasters, I probably would have either went to guest relations and killed those people with my complaints or sent an extremely nasty letter. There was no shade AT ALL, a bunch of totally unthemed rides and areas (except for Ponchartrain Beach) and concrete walkways (need I say more?). It was miserable. But SF has done a complete 180 and not only added a notible coaster, some "unique" rides, new shows, and a whole new themed area (DC Comic Superheros), but totally landscaped the park with trees, gardens and grasses, and added funky "shade structures" over I'd say 85% of the park. As you implied, yes, it is different from other SF parks as it actually has a theme that is shown throughout the park (except, of course, in DC Comics), instead of just in a certain area, if you know what I mean. Louisiana is obviously the common goal.
If you had not been to the park while it was Jazzland, you were not missing out on anything and will be happy to find that the park is probably has one the biggest varieties (key word: variety, not amount) of rides I've ever seen in a park. It truly is a great time.
If you are thinking about going perhaps next season, you should go on either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, just to certify that there will be zero lines in the park or nothing less than maybe 20 minutes. I got on every ride in the park I wanted to go on and waited less than 15-20 min. for all of them. This is probably because I went on a Tuesday. If you can't, though, I'm sure that the park won't be crowded on the weekends. Although, any Six Flags is a major tourist attraction, when people visit New Orleans, they really don't go to the local amusement park (as you can probably agree). Plus, people in the area really don't seem to be into parks anyway (I have family in N.O) so you don't have to worry at all. You will have a great time and probably will get through everything in a day.

Oh, and BTW, this is how you should conquer the park if you go...

This is the best way to conquer SFNO
1. Go left when you get to the end of the entrance path in Main Street Square and through Cajun Country so that you can start in DC Comics and ride Batman:The Ride, if you are anxious
2.Ride all the other rides in that area (Rides you can pass up are: Joker's Jukebox and Catwoman's Whip) and then go back through Cajun Country. There is a wild mouse coaster there and some traditional rides (Pirate Ship, Log Flume, Scrambler etc.)
3. Continue through Main Street Square (the entrance square) and go around "the loop", hitting all the worthwhile attractions in the areas that it goes through: Mardi Gras (Rides you can pass up: Jester- Looks fun but hurts; read my review, King Chaos- It's everywhere... Voodoo Volcano- An Inverter ride that hurts just as much as Jester, Krazy Krewe- If you can be satified by a really, really short ride...) and Ponchartrain Beach (Rides you can pass up: Dizzy Lizzy- Repeditive and a so-so thrill). MAKE SURE YOU RIDE MEGA ZEPH IN MARDI GRAS. IT'S SIGN IS VERY HIDDEN AND SMALL: If you don't, you WILL be dissapointed and missing out on one of the greatest, and most underrated, woodies in the country.
4. In Ponchartrain Beach, you'll be at a "crossroads": You can either continue through the area, ending up right on the pathway to DC Comics/Cajun Country and reride everything in those areas -or- you can venture back through P.B and reride everything in Mardi Gras. It doesn't matter which way you go, though, because you can easily get to the other side of the lake just by going through P.B.

Thanks MagnumMan!!! I actually am going to be in the park on a Saturday, but I'm still going to optimistic about lines (Yes I am definitley going). What exactly is Catwoman's Whip by the way and why is it bad??? Same with Joker's Jukebox.

Joker's Jukebox is described as a "different" sort of ride. But actually all it is is an extremely slow scrambler that turns the cars on their sides instead of just keeping them level. It's actually quite boring and repeditive. Catwoman's Whip says that the cars flip 360 degrees but don't expect it. This is what I was waiting for. Also, the ride just basically tips you back and forth and gets you very dizzy. There are many more quality rides that do the same thing better though (For instance, Lex Luthor's Invertatron. Now that's a ride!...If not a bit short). The plus side, though, is that I had never been on a Mondial Shake (Catwoman's Whip) or a "Joker's Jukebox" type-ride before so if you want something "different", try them so you can add them to your ride record. Otherwise, they aren't worth extra time.

Alrighty thanks. I really hope it won't be crowded...I'm going on a Saturday in June so I'm a little worried.

It shouldn't be too bad... Only if there's a special event will it be ridiculously crowded (and oh yes it can get pretty bad...just imagine Mega Zeph and Batman overflowing their queues and you get the idea). But I have a few strategies for avoiding the largest of crowds.

1. Get to the park at/before opening
2. Run to Batman: The Ride first as it gets a lengthy line pretty much before any other ride.
3. After you ride Batman once if there's not a long wait/line ride it again. If there is a long line go over to Mega Zeph and you'll find no long waits until at least noon
4. Most of the flat rides usually don't get long lines, but the ones that occasionally do are Lex Luthor's Invertatron and Catwoman's Whip
5. Depending on how many boats Ozarka Splash (log flume) is running, a small looking line might be longer than it looks.
6. On the other hand, Spillway Splashout (shoot the chutes water ride) can have a huge looking line but it moves quickly
7. Some rides such as the Simulator, Lex Luthor's Invertatron, and Zydeco Scream may open late since they require extensive maintenance checks in the morning, check the sign or ask a ride op at what time to come back if they aren't open.

I've never seen any lines longer than an hour this season really. Batman's wait time is usually about 45 minutes when over 1/2 of the switchbacks are full. Also keep an eye out on the crazy Southeastern Louisiana weather! It can really catch you off guard during the summer. You've got a long time in between then and now, but when the time comes I hope you will have a great time.

I wish I could control when I get into the park, but it is a band trip. Oh, and our band might be playing there too so that cuts more time.

I remember about 3 years ago I went to my dads company picnic at SFKK and it was awful. We hanged out with his 15 friends all day, about 8 of which hated coasters. I finaly said to my dad I was leaving and meet him at the car at closing. I will NEVER go to a theme park with more than 10 people or with people who are scared of rides ever again!

Well we get to divide into groups on these band trips, and most my friends love coasters.

Don't worry about spliting up at SFNO. (1)- It's just a loop around a lake. No unorganization like, for example, SFOT at all. (2)- It's REALLY SMALL! You aren't going to lose anyone there. (3)- It's usually never busy. I really HOPE a big group would split up.

Well I can't change the trip itinerary. Going to the park is only part of it. I'm there for 4 days. It's a band trip. We're not just going to Six Flags.

No one can predict the future. Don't worry about the crowds or anything else, just have fun.
