Anyone have any idea or information on when the Simpsons Ride is due to open at Universal Orlando? There was a rumor it would open April 3rd, now another that it's April 25. On the Simpson's Ride website, it announces Simpson's Hollywood opens May 17, Orlando just says "Soon." I would guess that not giving a specific date means May 17 is closer than "Soon."

Any ideas?

(Sorry, should have gone under Rumors and Speculation, please move if you can)

I think they started switching over Orlando's a month or 2 after Hollywood's. So possibly Jun or July.

I really dislike the Simpsons, but I can't lie - the front of the building (for Orlando at least) looks pretty sweet.

While The Simpson's is the only institution I still have any faith in.

From the Orlando Sentinel:
The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios in Orlando will have its grand opening May 15-16, Universal Orlando announced.

The brief annuncement promises a "Simpsons-style" grand opening" complete with celebrities, then promises more details later.

The Simpsons Ride is a rebuild of the old Back to the Future: The Ride building. Construction began about a year ago and looks just about finished.

There's no word whether there will be a soft opening to get the kinks out of the ride before the opening. Usually soft openings start a few weeks before the grand opening. As of Friday, a construction wall still surrounded the building and construction workers appeared to be still putting things together.

The construction, reportedly costing $30 million, will use the 80-foot-tall movie screens and the bases of the motion-simulation vehicles from Back to the Future: The Ride, to give visitors a virtual-reality trip through a cartoon theme park called "Krustyland" -- the domain of The Simpsons' TV clown.

The ride also is being built at Universal Studios Hollywood, and is set to open May 17 there (with a reported $40 million pricetag.) The studios there have given local reporters a couple of opportunities to tour the construction site and the reports are that the pre-show is the highly-themed Krustyland carnival. There are new ride vehicles, new scissor lifts, new motion platforms and new digital projectors.

I too have heard that it will open around May 15-16. Those who have ridden it have had nothing but positives for the ride, especially in regards to the motions and the non-toned down humor that is found in the Simpsons.

I love the Simpsons! I flipped out when I saw the commercial. I've never been to Universal and live no where near it, but hopefully this ride will still be up and running by the time I can plan a trip there! From erinys' review it sounds like it's definitely worth a ride!

I probably am going there this summer and hope to ride this, but I would have rather ridden Back to the Future over this.

I *finally* was able to ride it, during my second trip to HHN on Saturday.

As I said in my last post, I absolutely love the theming on the building. At night, it just glows... It'.s wonderful. The pre-show isn'.t as exciting as the BTTF pre-show was - but fans of the show will likely find it entertaining. I was just waiting for Doc Brown to show up...or for Biff to steal the Delorean.

The ride itself was neat. I tried to not have my hatred for The Simpsons ruin it all...and I think it worked. I came away feeling I didn'.t waste 10 minutes of my life. Wasn'.t as funny as I was expecting it to be, and I could have sworn the Doc makes a cameo in it somewhere, but I didn'.t see it.

Worthy addition, I guess, but I miss BTTF.

^There'.s a video that plays every once in a while that plays tribute to BTTF, that'.s probably where you saw him. There'.s an entire understory about how the Doc had to sell the his lab in a hurry and Crusty was right there to buy it up. Doc now works as a sweeper or something like that in Crustyland. It'.s all set up in the line if you pay attention...

Ah, see...there was no line. So I couldn'.t watch the video. I just thought I heard about it somewhere.
