Hey, kiddies -

Again, Palm Sunday (March 16) this year marks the opening day for Astroland at Coney Island. I will be there to be sure - hitting the park after my 1pm swim with the Polar Bear Club. Any of you folks interested in getting together? The festivities start at noon, and once again a Street Organ Rally is planned (now that's my cup of tea).

Drop a line here, and lemme know what's up. I would love to see you fine folks again - it's been a slight hell of a year on my end, and I'm ready for a good time.

Here's to you all!

Momma T is working, but I'm mulling a trip on the Fung Wa bus with T2.

Traver, any chance you and the missus might make a day of it?

in fact there is some chance we may come! we were already planning to go to the big city that weekend.

as it gets a little closer to palm sunday, i'll know the deal.

i probably won't throw around my cash much this time. cyclone for sure, nathan's definitely...but the entire city will have an IV into my bank account as usual, especially since i'm staying until that wednesday.

i'm not clear on what's already been removed, what rides from the different parks will be operating this year?

Good question, traver... it's likely that, in addition to the Astroland rides, Deno's will be open, as well as possibly the Ghost Hole, Polar Express and Saturn 6. Not sure, but we'll see.

As for me, I am bound and DETERMINED, based on Horizon's description, to ride the Saturn 6 at long last...

I'm going! I got so excited about it that I totally missed this thread. >_<

I'll be doing my usual sniffing around the History Project and drawing things. I can't promise I'll ride anything, but I'd be happy to bust some heads on the bumper cars if Deno's is open.

Unfortunately I will not be making it this year. I just recently got into fostering cats, and I picked up a litter of newborns last night, so I will have to tend to them. Also, money is a little tight with my dogs health. Not to mention, I have a fantasy baseball draft that morning. I would love to find some other time to meet up with everyone this season though, just not at this time.

We'll miss you, but I think it's wonderful that you're involved in animal fostering, Hercules. I'm a supporter of greyhound retirement/adoption, so I dig what you're doing.

Also, I hope your pup is feeling okay - I know how it is, tending a pet who's having some troubles. Give them an ear-scratching for me.

Sorry it took so long to respond! Unfortunately I won't be able to make it as I'm attending a get together for my brother-in-law's birthday on that day. I really hope there's a "TPC Con 2.1" during the season though!

However, I might be heading down to Coney Island on one of the coming weekends. There's only so long that I can go knowing that The Breakdance is open, ready to turn me into taffy.

Have fun on the Saturn 6...the ride from Hell.

Perhaps this is just me, cause I'm new, but how will any of us find/recognize each other? Given, of course, that we haven't met before.

You can't miss me - red hair, with a black satin Coney Island Polar Bear Club jacket on. If that isn't good enough of a description, I'll likely be making out with my smokin' hot boyfriend.

I think you're the only one I'll recognize. You'll know me by my carousel pin and I'll probably be dragging a hot man of my own.

ay, not sure yet if i'll make it. i'll be in nyc for sure, but the usual logistical hurdles have been set......

sunday is the only day for me to hang with the wife's peeps in queens. kill two birds with one stone and drag 'em down to CI, so we'll see i can pull off such an efficient day of big apple biting.....

i look less like a chechnyan terrorist nowadays than when i first met adr on the boardwalk, around three years back. now i look more like a jewish college professor crossed with a snarky cyberpunk author at book signing.

^I'm eagerly anticipating hrrytraver's Joe-Strummer-on-Slimfast look.

Incidentally, how did TPC Con 2.0 go? I'm sorry I couldn't make it, but I just started my 73rd new job today, and I didn't want to be too tired, broke, or tuned-up to put my best foot forward. As it was, I got off at the wrong bus stop and was late.

Let's see... the latest:

1) The Cyclone was running at a really nice clip, despite the cold, rain and early time in the season (however, they have re-upholstered it, and it's almost uncomfortable at this point. A friend of ours actually couldn't fit, and he isn't all that big)...

2) The Top Spin and Breakdance are currently out of operation - supposedly, the former of the two broke down last September, and they are waiting on parts. The water function isn't expected to work for the year... sorry, all of you masochistic, germ-tempted daredevils.

3) Deno's, briefly, was up and running as well.

4) Nothing at all is happening with Joe Sitt's land along Stillwell - go stinking figure.

5) The street organ rally, as it was, was slightly anti-climactic, but TOTALLY up traver's alley. A fellow had brought his midi-based electronic automated instruments - seriously wacky stuff, made of cracker boxes, toy instruments, aerosol can tops and other such percussive interpretations.

6) As a CI Polar Bear, I can say that the water is still cold, clean and downright amazing.

Other than this, it's Coney as usual - at least in its present form, you know...

You mean they had the band organ rally after all?

I would have liked to have met people, but I bailed when it started raining. I was going to draw out in front of the Spook-A-Rama but they didn't even have the monsters out in front yet. Last summer they had a big ol' skeleton guy on top, but as of yet, nothin'.

Still, it was good to see you, Adriahna, and to meet your smokin' hot feller. ^_^

Very cool seeing you, Ri - and you didn't miss much at the rally. Literally, what I described was all - no real street or band organs - just the wacky little display aforementioned.

And glad you enjoyed meeting the fellow - even when shivering and toting American flags, we bears are pretty easygoing kooks.

I was actually there when it broke down! I can't beleive they didn't get it fixed yet. I remember, I got off the Top Spin and decided to film the next cycle. So as I was taping, the ride, in mid cycle, just slowed to a stop and the gondola was stranded in the air. After about 15 minutes they lowered the arms down and cranked the harnesses open.

I'll be searching for the video tape now...

hi y'all-
apologies for my absence. i was in queens most of the day. sure it was dismal, and i got into town around 1245pm, but even that said, there wasn't enough inspiration to get the fam down to that side of town.

i'll be about this summer for sure. i had a blast in nyc anyhow, wined and dined etc.

cheers to those who went!

No worries, traver - we'll get together this year. I have some nebulous plans involving a trip to see the Flying Turns... if they have that damned thing running at long last, I am so there.

Speaking of, I need to reach our old pal Cyclonic...

Gah - I forgot to mention - I am hoping that the weather holds tight this weekend, as the Saturn 6 wasn't running on opening day. I'll likely hit up the old monster on Sunday - which is appropriate. I ain't no Christian, but I'll probably be crying out for Jesus thanks to that ride. Here's to Easter!

A quick update, folks - I was at Coney today (go figure), and the Top Spin was up and running. The Astrotower... not so much.
